Upcoming Webinar: Local Government Offsite Construction Accelerator Info Session The single greatest constraint on housing supply and a growing cost driver is labour force. Offsite wood and mass timber construction can drive step changes in productivity that are essential to meeting local and provincial housing needs. While change is necessary by every order of government and the private sector, local governments have unique influence over policies and practices that can reduce cost, construction time and risk for builders, developers and manufacturers. This session is open to local government elected and staff. Join us Thu Jan 9, 2025 from 10am PST. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gmhMH_WG

British Columbia's clean energy economy just saw an enormous boost. Today, Premier Eby announced a deal to add 5,000 gigawatt hours—equivalent to the Site C dam—of wind power to the province's grid. ⚡ Here's what we're watching: 🏠 enough power for 500,000 new homes 💰 40% cheaper than the last call for power (2010) 🤝 25+% equity ownership by First Nations These nine projects will help BC electrify its transportation, buildings, and industry, supporting climate action and economic development. https://lnkd.in/geBY3QRt

Yesterday, Vancouver City Council voted to strengthen its climate policies for new buildings. This move will continue the momentum underway in Vancouver's building industry and beyond. Healthy, energy efficient, zero carbon homes are here. They're affordable and come in all shapes and sizes. For our part, we'll continue to work closely with industry through our building decarbonization programs, supporting capacity building to help answer the call: B2E - Building to Electrification Coalition ZEBx CLF British Columbia | Carbon Leadership Forum

"There is a significant risk that the City of Vancouver increases its carbon pollution." Our Director of Building Decarbonization, Roberto Pecora, spoke to the Vancouver Sun today about the one of the new construction compliance pathways being considered by the City of #Vancouver. The energy efficiency pathway would allow natural gas for space and water heating. The other compliance pathway under consideration would require building to the highest levels of BC's Zero Carbon Step Code, and would strengthen Vancouver's existing policy. https://lnkd.in/gN5fuD7J

📢 What's driving housing costs in #Vancouver? It's not climate policies for new construction. We surveyed BC's building industry, and 65 members of Vancouver's development, construction, design, and supply chain sectors responded. Here's what we learned about the impact of Vancouver's climate-friendly building bylaws: 👷🏽♀️ These policies aren't driving housing costs or slowing construction 🏗️ Industry is already largely meeting existing energy & emissions requirements 🏠 Demand for energy-efficient homes is rising—presenting big economic opportunities Learn more 👉🏼 https://lnkd.in/gpVW2Wkc
