Weekend Wisdom: When One Door Opens, Another May Close! In business and in life there are a series of transitions, marked by doors that open to new opportunities and doors that close behind us. While the act of stepping forward through an open door can be exciting, it often comes with an element of uncertainty, as leaving something familiar behind can feel daunting. Yet, it’s in these very moments of transition that the most profound growth occurs. An open door represents possibility. It’s a call to explore, challenge ourselves, and embrace change. Whether it’s a new business opportunity, career shift, a leadership opportunity, a move to a new city, or even the start of a personal relationship, these open doors often present paths we never imagined. They encourage us to push beyond our comfort zones, uncovering strengths, talents, and resilience we didn’t know we had. By walking through, we not only step into new opportunities but also into a deeper understanding of our own potential. At the same time, a closing door can feel like loss. It may signify the end of a role we once loved, the completion of a relationship, or the need to let go of old habits and beliefs. However, closing doors are not failures; they’re necessary endings that create space for new beginnings. When we release what no longer serves us—whether it’s outdated expectations, limiting beliefs, or unfulfilling routines—we free ourselves to embrace a future of greater alignment and fulfillment. This process requires trust: trust in the journey, in the timing, and in ourselves. It’s not always easy, but each closed door holds a lesson, and every open door offers an invitation to grow. When we reflect on past transitions, we often see how those closed doors led to opportunities we might have otherwise missed. The challenge is to view these moments with curiosity and gratitude, recognizing that every change is a stepping stone toward a fuller, more authentic life. Stepping through a new door isn’t just about moving forward—it’s about moving with purpose. It’s a chance to realign with your values, refine your goals, and step closer to the vision you hold for yourself. The process may feel uncomfortable, but that discomfort is often a sign that growth is happening. Are you ready to embrace the next chapter? Perhaps that is the start of 2025?  Open doors invite us to be bold, to explore the unknown, and to trust that the best is yet to come. Let’s walk forward with confidence, using the lessons from closing doors as a foundation and the opportunities of open doors as our guide to what’s possible. Life’s greatest rewards often lie on the other side of a door we’re brave enough to walk through. Enjoy your weekend! • Momentum Monday! Creating a sense of value within a team requires leaders to build authentic connections, demonstrate consistent appreciation, and foster an environment where contributions are acknowledged and celebrated. When leaders take the time to genuinely understand their team members—their strengths, aspirations, and challenges—they communicate that each individual is more than just a resource but a valued partner in the organization's mission. This requires actively listening, engaging in meaningful conversations, and showing empathy in both successes and setbacks. Mutual trust, the foundation of cohesive teams, is enhanced when leaders get to know, and understand, their teams on a more personal level. The way leaders express appreciation should feel personal and sincere. Generic acknowledgments often fall flat; instead, specific recognition tied to an individual's efforts or impact resonates more deeply. It’s not just about celebrating major achievements but also acknowledging the small wins and the effort that goes into daily tasks. When leaders model gratitude, it becomes woven into the team's culture, inspiring mutual respect among team members. The ultimate result of making teams feel valued is multifaceted. Employees who feel seen and appreciated are more likely to be engaged, motivated, and committed to their work. Trust grows, collaboration strengthens, and morale rises, creating a positive ripple effect across the organization. This not only boosts productivity but also enhances retention, fostering a workplace where both individuals and the team as a whole can thrive. In busy workplaces, this is always easier said than done. Leaders ideally learn to reflect on their day, and how much time or effort may have been applied to showing appreciation, and offering thanks. Leadership training can help, and leadership coaching provides an accountability partner that can contribute to skill development. Leadership accountability, reflection on efforts, and celebrating the wins in a confidential environment is what coaching is all about! In scuba diving there is a mantra that says: "plan your dive - dive your plan". The same can be said for strategic planning - "plan you work - work your plan". Conducting a strategic planning exercise with an independent facilitator is the best way to drill down to what's important for the organization going forward. Weekend Wisdom Ego: Friend or Foe? Ego often gets a bad reputation, but is it really all bad? The truth is, ego is both a powerful ally and a potential saboteur—it all depends on how we manage it. At its best, ego can be your friend. It fuels confidence, ambition, and resilience. It pushes you to set bold goals, advocate for yourself, and step into leadership roles with authority. Ego helps you believe in your capabilities, even when the odds are stacked against you. It sets boundaries, ensuring you don’t settle for less than you deserve. Without ego, many of the world’s most significant achievements might not exist. Think of Jobs, Gates, Bezos, and Musk. But ego has a shadow side. Left unchecked, it can quickly become a foe. An inflated ego leads to arrogance, blinds you to valuable feedback, and alienates those around you. A fragile ego can make you defensive or overly focused on external validation, stalling personal growth. The worst outcomes of unchecked ego are poor decision-making, damaged relationships, and missed opportunities for collaboration. So, how do we make ego our ally? By balancing it with humility, self-awareness, and service. Recognize when ego drives you toward progress—and when it holds you back. Ego is like fire: a tool when controlled, but destructive when left to rage. Master it, and you can harness its power for growth and impact. Enjoy your weekend! #Leadership #PersonalGrowth #Mindset #SelfAwareness Kris Schinke, MBA Hasan Ahmed X5 Management Brent Collingwood, M.Ed., CEC, CFL Priscilla Bahrey Gina Boucher
