✨ Another wish fulfilled ✨ Meet Ruby Snyder: 85 Years Young Ruby Snyder has always loved books, and through the vivid settings in her favorite stories, she developed a secret wish to visit a lighthouse—a dream that stayed with her for years. In 1965, while living in Newfoundland, Ruby glimpsed these towering structures from afar but never had the chance to explore one up close. Raising four children and supporting her husband kept her days full, leaving little time for her own dreams. Now 85 and living in Ontario, Ruby’s wish to climb a lighthouse still lingered in her heart. Her life has been marked by selflessness, always putting her family’s needs first. Though resilient, loneliness often accompanies her since her husband’s passing six years ago. Ruby’s dream resurfaced during a heartfelt conversation with her daughter, Jasmin, as they shared personal aspirations. It was then Ruby revealed her lifelong wish—to stand atop a lighthouse and take in the view she’d imagined for years. Determined to make it a reality, Jasmin reached out to We Are Young for help, as accessing a lighthouse to climb is no simple task. Kincardine, on the shores of Lake Huron, became the perfect destination. The white lighthouse with its red roof mirrored the scenes Ruby had envisioned. Even with arthritic knees, she was determined to climb its steps, savoring every moment. The day arrived, filled with excitement. Ruby felt right at home with Jasmin and her grandson assisting her the entire way. The lighthouse guides gave her an unforgettable tour, offering knowledge and encouragement while ensuring Ruby’s safety every step of the way. Their warmth and humor made the day even more special. Ruby tackled the stairs with determination. At the top, she was greeted with the stunning view she had always imagined. When she made her way back down, Ruby’s smile said it all. With tears in her eyes, she took her daughter’s hands and said, “Thank you for this.” In that quiet moment, words weren’t needed—this experience had been everything she’d hoped for and more. Ruby brought home a fridge magnet of the lighthouse—a daily reminder of her adventure. Sharing her story with neighbors and friends, Ruby proved it’s never too late to make new memories. For a day, she was Ruby the adventurer, inspiring others to chase their dreams. Granting Ruby’s wish brought her immense joy and reaffirmed her belief that age should never be a barrier to living life to the fullest. Meet Carole, 81 years young, from Waterloo, Ontario. For many years, Carole’s greatest wish has been to ride a horse again. From a young age, she was captivated by horses, often walking miles to ride one. At 29, after years of dreaming, Carole finally owned her own horse. Her love deepened over time, leading her to change lives through her passion for these incredible animals. Carole spent her life joyfully throwing herself into all manner of opportunities to serve others. Whether it was teaching Sunday school, serving meals to the homeless, or helping children with disabilities experience the bliss of riding horses, and countless other ways, she poured her time and energy into making a difference. Her radiant smile brightened the lives of everyone she touched, leaving a lasting impact through countless acts of kindness. Carole’s commitment to others extended beyond her community and into her own home. Becoming a single mother of two, Carole put her own dreams on hold to prioritize her children. She even gave up her beloved horse, Gentry, to ensure she could give them the attention they needed, and postponed her education until her children were older. When Carole returned to school in her 50s, she chose a path that led her to work with seniors in long-term care and retirement homes. Until the age of 74, Carole was vibrant and independent. But in 2017, an unexpected stroke changed everything, leaving her needing full-time care. Horses became even more significant for Carole during her recovery, serving as reminders of her purpose and drive to heal. Tragically, further complications led to the amputation of her right leg, and her hopes of riding seemed to slip away. Carole felt she had nothing left to offer, believing she needed to heal more before she could help others again. The thought of never fulfilling her passion, never riding a horse again or caring for her grandchildren was devastating, and adjusting to her new reality was heartbreaking. At We Are Young, we are dedicated to making wishes that seem impossible a reality. We were honored to collaborate with the incredible team at Pride Stables to help Carole get back on a horse. This past spring, at 81 years young, she finally felt the pure joy of riding again, and her illuminating smile was contagious. For the first time in nearly a decade, Carole felt she had something to give again. She hopes her story serves as a powerful reminder to others: never stop praying or dreaming—regardless of age, ability, or circumstances, because with help, including the right community support, dreams can truly come true. Does this story resonate with anyone in your life who might be waiting for a transformative experience? If so, please share our online application with them! Visit www.weareyoung.ca today! Special thanks again to our friends at Pride Stables and One Transportation ❤️ Video captured by the talented Boxcar Media Inc. 🎥

Happy Thanksgiving! This weekend, we’re especially thankful for the incredible seniors we’ve had the privilege of meeting through our work. They’ve taught us so much—about resilience, love, sacrifice and most importantly, the value of cherishing every moment. With each story we hear, we’re reminded of the immense wisdom and joy to be found in our senior community. It is truly to our detriment if we don’t go looking for it. We’re honoured to help fulfill their dreams and share their journeys, knowing their stories inspire everyone who gets to see them. This Thanksgiving, let’s take a moment to celebrate the seniors in our lives and communities who continue to inspire us, every single day. 🍂❤️
