Canadian #carriers hauling #freight in the United States should be aware that if their vehicle is involved in a crash, and during litigation a jury finds the #trucking company 1% liable, the company is on the hook for the entire judgment. As #nuclearverdicts – where jury awards in civil lawsuits have exceeded US$10 million – become more common, carriers must be vigilant and limit their exposure to #vicariousliability, a lawyer and insurance specialist said during a discussion at the Fleet Safety Council’s central and southwestern Ontario chapters event in Cambridge, Ont. Ongoing financial challenges led Lion Electric and its subsidiaries to file for #creditorprotection under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) with the Superior Court of Quebec, the all-electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicle manufacturer announced in a news release. The company is also seeking recognition of the proceedings in the U.S. under Chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy Code. #electrictruck #truck #trucking #transportation #sustainability https://lnkd.in/gGSRFb8N

Now may not seem like a good time to be ordering new #trucks. But come this time next year, you may wish you had placed an order before 2024 expired. A complex storm is brewing south of the border with all kinds of moving parts. The Canadian economy remains sluggish and now faces the very real threat of massive #tariffs imposed by the incoming Trump administration. Adding to fleets’ concerns over the economic malaise are worries about the roll-out of the Model Year (MY) 2027 trucks. That’s a mere 12 months, hence, Jan. 1, 2026. MY2027 trucks are expected to come with the steepest MY-over-MY price increase ever. Ever. Jim Park takes a deep dive into the issue. #trucking #transportation https://lnkd.in/g-3rED_Q

The latest American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) report on road #congestion, pegged the cost to the #truckingindustry at $108.8 billion (all figures USD) in 2022. That marks a record high, according to ATRI, which measures the costs annually. While a softer #freight market reduced the time #trucks spent in congestion, the overall cost rose 15% year over year due to higher operating costs. The price tag equates to more than 430,000 commercial #truckdrivers sitting idle for an entire work year, or $7,588 per truck. #trucking #transportation https://lnkd.in/gNf5CqER

It’s pretty flat in Ontario’s #trucking heartland, but it appears that some #truck #drivingschools in the area are quickly sliding down a slippery slope to the murky bottom of shoddy #training. And while doing so, they are putting lives in danger. A not so shining example of the situation plaguing the Peel Region was on display recently. Police officers pulled over a driving school truck and discovered several issues. The school and #truckdriver are facing charges. Some schools are not concerned about #roadsafety or maintaining their equipment. Leo Barros says that these greedy people are focused on making money while other road users be damned. #transportation #trucker https://lnkd.in/gBPd4vTe
