“If there’s no being understood, how do you move forward if you’re not connecting and you’re not in a relationship… there’s no understanding of the deep relationship that is needed in Indigenous culture to move forward. Relationship to the land, the water, to our ancestors. And there’s none of that in our medical models. It’s this is wrong let’s fix it…. and there’s no connection.” This quote is from Angie Brinoni, Addictions Counselor and Gathering Our Medicine Facilitator. On December 10th, 1948 in Paris (France) the United Nations General Assembly declared and set out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected. Every year thereafter Human Rights day has been recognized around the world on this same day. #humanrightsday This year's theme is Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now. It's a call to acknowledge the importance and relevance of human rights in our everyday lives by speaking up against hate speech, correcting misinformation and countering disinformation.

“… they could be addicted to drugs for many reasons.… also, it’s numbing pain in ways, and they’re depressed. And so having our leaders, our cultural leaders, our Band leaders, everybody involved in a person’s life culturally, and not chastising them. And holding their hand and helping them is definitely the thing that I found the most beneficial and that worked.” This quote is from Dr. Peter Eppinga, FNHA Fraser Salish Board Director.
