As the year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the barriers patients still face under the Special Access Program (SAP). Here are 3 ways we can improve it in 2025: 1️⃣ Redefine “emergency” access—we need a clear and compassionate understanding of what constitutes an emergency, decided by patients and their doctors, not bureaucrats. 2️⃣ Empower healthcare professionals—doctors know what’s best for their patients. Let’s trust them to make those decisions. 3️⃣ Streamline approvals—stop forcing patients to endure unnecessary treatments like ECT before accessing psychedelics. Honourable Health Minister Hon. Mark Holland, PC, MP, we’re asking you to listen and hear from the patients who are suffering. It’s time to leave these outdated barriers behind. 📣 Share this post and tell your MP we need change: https://lnkd.in/gPh327W9

The New York Times has published several stories on psychedelics recently, including this one about patients who turned to psilocybin and ketamine to ease the fear, depression, and anxiety that accompany terminal illnesses. It’s great to see major news outlets highlighting how psychedelic treatments are not just effective—they’re life-changing. Yet, access remains deeply challenging. In Canada, patients face months of delays, rejections, and bureaucratic hurdles. The process for accessing psilocybin is far from compassionate, forcing individuals to fight for care at a time when they need it most. This isn’t about science—psilocybin is proven to be safe and effective. These barriers are political. With an election on the horizon, it’s time for Canada’s leaders to act. We need a compassionate system that puts patients first and ensures access to transformative treatments like psilocybin. https://lnkd.in/eWh8PjbV

One year ago, we released a powerful documentary capturing TheraPsil’s fight for legal psilocybin therapy, featuring voices like MP Elizabeth May, who said: “If there’s a cure for depression, it shuts off a market for some very profitable products... We need to take our blinders off and ask where entrenched interests might not want people to have access—especially if it works.” Psilocybin therapy is life-saving care, supported by evidence, yet our leaders continue to drag their feet on this issue. Patients across Canada are still being treated without compassion, while pharmaceutical influence seems to block progress. With so much evidence emerging, and another year gone by without common sense regulations, we have to ask: What’s taking so long, Honourable Minister of Health Hon. Mark Holland, PC, MP? How can this continue to be ignored? What do you think about MP May’s take? Are entrenched interests stopping Canadians from accessing life-saving care? 🎥 Relive this journey—watch our documentary here: https://lnkd.in/gpJcMCgk

It’s been a few weeks since FunGuyz announced the closure of its 30 magic mushroom stores after over 120 raids, yet the story continues to capture attention. The numbers in Canada tell the story: -*In 2019, 949,000 Canadians reported using a “hallucinogen” (e.g., psilocybin, LSD) or “ecstasy.” With rising interest, these numbers have likely grown. -Since January 2022, fewer than 250 people have accessed psilocybin legally through the Special Access Program With demand this high, these stores—and their online counterparts—are clearly filling a gap. We've heard countless stories of Canadians turning to them for relief from depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and more. While psychedelics like psilocybin can transform lives, self-directed treatment carries risks. At TheraPsil, we believe a regulated medical model is the best way to ensure safety and access for those who need it most. What do you think—how should Canada address this growing demand? Let us know in the comments! https://lnkd.in/gJHXuRru *As per the Canadian Alcohol and Drugs Survey

We’re proud to launch our Fundamentals of Psilocybin-Assisted Psychotherapy as an online training program, starting January 2025! This hybrid model offers healthcare professionals across Canada the flexibility to access TheraPsil’s renowned training program while preserving the essential elements of in-person experiential sessions and practicums. Dave Phillips, who will lead the beta cohort, reflects on this milestone: "The primary challenge was creating an online format that upheld the integrity and core learning objectives of the course. With our team’s deep understanding of this model, I’m proud to say we’ve met this challenge." Spots for the beta cohort are limited to just 12 participants. If you’re ready to take the next step in advancing your practice, apply now at therapsil.ca/training.

Is the power of #psychedelics in the substance itself, or does human #connection enhance their effects? 🍄 Recent research highlights the vital role of the therapeutic alliance in psilocybin-assisted therapy. 🫶 The study found that a stronger alliance between participants and facilitators, characterized by trust, collaboration, and emotional attunement, as directly associated with greater reductions in depression. 🫶 Participants with stronger alliances reported more profound mystical experiences and psychological insights. 🫶 These findings echo traditional shamanic practices, where the guide plays a central role in fostering emotional and spiritual resonance. Similarly, in modern therapeutic settings, the facilitator’s ability to create a supportive environment enhances the participant’s experience, promoting deeper psychological breakthroughs. 🫶 Beyond the pharmacological effects of psilocybin, this study highlights the importance of the relational dynamics between facilitators and participants. It suggests that the success of psychedelic therapy depends not just on the substance itself, but on the interpersonal context in which it is administered. Curious to know more?
