📈 Despite some seasonal slowdown as we head into winter, Statistics Canada | Statistique Canada's recent data shows a positive shift for women and young people joining the construction workforce. Over the past year, the industry added 3,400 workers! Employment among young workers aged 15 to 24 increased by 15.2%, cutting this cohort's unemployment rate nearly in half to 9.4% from last year's 5.5%. Female representation in the workforce grew significantly, with employment among women increasing by 7.2% and their unemployment rate dropping to just 2.7%. In November, the sector saw an increase of 18,400 jobs after five months of little change, signalling a positive turnaround. However, the manufacturing sector experienced a decline of 28,500 jobs in November. This drop was primarily concentrated in Ontario, where manufacturing employment fell by 20,000. 🚧 Exciting news! A brand-new high-rise is taking shape in Winnipeg's East Exchange District and it's the first one in almost 50 years. This month, Young Construction Leaders of Manitoba (YCLM) went on an exclusive tour of an innovative 10-story mixed-use building being built by Concord Projects for Alston Properties. This new building will feature an underground parkade, a four-level podium with two levels of commercial space and two levels of residences, as well as a tower with another six levels of apartments, including a rooftop patio!
