Zanta Klauz is coming to town. Be aware! Scammers are more active than ever this time of year, using every trick to appear as trustworthy figures. Be sure you spot them. - Be Cautious with Online Deals: If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Scammers create lookalike websites offering counterfeit products at unbelievably low prices. Stick to reputable retailers and read reviews before making a purchase. Be sure to double-check that URLs are legit! - Secure Your Payments: When using payment apps, opt for trusted services that offer purchase protection. - Protect Your Deliveries: Scammers may send fake delivery notifications to create urgency and trick you into clicking malicious links. Always check your order status directly through the retailer's website rather than through unexpected messages or emails. - Watch for Fake Fundraisers and Charities: The holiday season is a prime time for scammers posing as charities. Research any organization before donating to ensure your contribution goes to a legitimate cause. - Beware of Phishing Scams: Scammers often send emails or texts that appear to be from legitimate companies, enticing you to click on links or provide personal information. Always verify the sender's address and avoid clicking on suspicious links. This Holiday Season, let’s spread joy without falling prey to “Zanta Klauz” and his tricks. 🎄✨ #HolidaySafety #ScamAwareness #cybersecurity

Being skeptical can save your business. Yes, you know what Snake Oil is, but what about all those incredible offers, deals, or urgent requests we receive almost every day? They could lead to cyber scams. Scammers exploit our fear of missing out (#FOMO), prompting hasty decisions without proper scrutiny. This can lead organizations to act recklessly and expose themselves. Be aware of gift card offers, cryptocurrency hype, and urgent requests. For the latter, always verify by phone; do not trust emails or text messages, even if they appear to come from a trusted address or phone number: they could have been compromised. Be skeptical. Double-check. Repeat. #cybersecurity #hackers

Cyberattacks Don’t Take Days Off – A Stark Reminder for Schools, Hospitals, and Public Institutions This week, the Pembina Trails School Division in Winnipeg faced a significant network outage caused by "unusual activities" in its systems, impacting phones, computers, and overall operations. While classes continued, the disruption forced the division to call in third-party investigators to identify and mitigate the issue. This incident highlights an uncomfortable reality: cybercriminals target all sectors, including those that serve the most vulnerable populations—students, patients, and communities at large. Schools, hospitals, and similar institutions are not immune. Why are these sectors often in the crosshairs? Critical systems: Downtime can have immediate, far-reaching consequences, making these targets more likely to pay ransoms. Resource constraints: Many public institutions lack robust cybersecurity defenses due to limited budgets. Data richness: Personal information from students, staff, and patients is highly valuable in black markets. This is a wake-up call for all organizations, public and private, to invest in cybersecurity and prepare for the unexpected. Protecting data, securing networks, and training staff to recognize threats must be priorities—not afterthoughts. If you’re in the education, healthcare, or public services sector, what steps is your organization taking to stay ahead of cyber threats? Let’s open the dialogue—prevention starts with awareness and collaboration. #Cybersecurity #Ransomware #PublicSector #DataProtection https://lnkd.in/g4eYqkmM

Recent reports reveal that hackers from the group Trinity have claimed to have stolen 560 GB of sensitive data from the Spanish Tax Agency (ADMINISTRACIÓN DE LA AGENCIA TRIBUTARIA (AEAT)), demanding a staggering €38 million in ransom. While the AEAT denies any breach, three scenarios are emerging: - False Claim: Trinity might be bluffing about the data breach. - Actual Breach with Denial: A hack could have occurred, but the AEAT is downplaying it to manage the fallout. - Third-Party Breach: The breach may involve a third-party vendor responsible for data storage rather than the AEAT itself. Other than hoping it doesn't happen to you, how will you face such an event? Praying? Good luck! https://lnkd.in/gQEnXr9g Ground News #cybersecurity #hackers #ransomware

Fascinating Research Alert: The Science of Cyber-Mindfulness Here is an incredible research paper by Anna Collard 🌻 that challenges everything we think about cybersecurity training. The key insight? Our susceptibility to phishing isn't just about knowledge - it's about our state of mind. Key findings that stood out: - 70% of experts emphasize the need to shift from rapid-fire responses to thoughtful reactions - Mindfulness training significantly improved phishing detection compared to control groups - Short, focused training sessions are more effective than lengthy programs - Work culture of "constant urgency" actually increases cyber vulnerability Most interesting takeaway: Traditional security awareness isn't enough. The research shows that integrating mindfulness techniques into cybersecurity training helps people develop "automatic mindfulness" - the ability to switch from autopilot to alert mode when encountering potential threats. This could revolutionize how we approach human-centered cybersecurity. What are your thoughts on bringing mindfulness into cybersecurity training? #Cybersecurity #MindfulnessAtWork #InformationSecurity #CyberAwareness #LeadershipDevelopment
