They could lead to cyber scams. Scammers exploit our fear of missing out (#FOMO), prompting hasty decisions without proper scrutiny. This can lead organizations to act recklessly and expose themselves. Be aware of gift card offers, cryptocurrency hype, and urgent requests. For the latter, always verify by phone; do not trust emails or text messages, even if they appear to come from a trusted address or phone number: they could have been compromised. Be skeptical. Recent reports reveal that hackers from the group Trinity have claimed to have stolen 560 GB of sensitive data from the Spanish Tax Agency (ADMINISTRACIÓN DE LA AGENCIA TRIBUTARIA (AEAT)), demanding a staggering €38 million in ransom. While the AEAT denies any breach, three scenarios are emerging: - False Claim: Trinity might be bluffing about the data breach. - Actual Breach with Denial: A hack could have occurred, but the AEAT is downplaying it to manage the fallout. - Third-Party Breach: The breach may involve a third-party vendor responsible for data storage rather than the AEAT itself.
