🚨📑 NEW PUBLICATION ALERT💡‼️ We are pleased to announce that the Understanding Risk British Columbia 2023: Symposium Outcomes report is now out! Understanding Risk BC (URBC) is a collaborative initiative aimed at advancing Sendai-informed disaster risk governance in Southwest BC. Since 2017, URBC symposia have worked to bridge gaps between the science-policy-action interface towards reducing risks and building resilience. 2023’s symposium offered a solutions-oriented space to advance multi-hazard risk reduction and collaborative governance across society and all levels of government. Visit https://lnkd.in/gucev8_B to read more about the key insights and actionable takeaways from last year’s sessions. ❗ Calling climate experts and local governments ❗ 🌱💡Are you a climate equity and resilience expert looking to leverage your professional expertise to support locally-led adaptation projects? 🏘️🚦Are you a local government seeking to enhance your community’s resilience through the implementation of equitable, low carbon infrastructure solutions? Visit https://lnkd.in/gEnEaHiR to learn more about the new Climate Ready Infrastructure Service (CRIS), and to register to be matched on collaborative climate adaptation projects! #CanadaAdapts #ClimateReady
Registration is now open for the Climate Ready Infrastructure Service (CRIS), a new project facilitated by the Canadian Urban Institute that connects local governments with leading climate experts to implement low-carbon infrastructure across Canada. 🍁 Tamarack Institute is proud to be partnering with the Canadian Urban Institute on this, to share the opportunity with our network of municipalities, recruit climate equity experts to the roster, and support with bringing an equity lens to the project. 🔎 This service offers financial compensation and professional development for independent contractors and firms, while providing local governments with decision-making support for climate-resilient infrastructure projects. Local governments and climate experts are invited to register to collaborate on projects that advance both climate resilience and low-carbon solutions. Visit the CRIS website to learn more and register: https://lnkd.in/gEnEaHiR 🌱 The Roster of Climate and Infrastructure Experts is funded by the Government of Canada as part of the Climate Toolkit for Housing and Infrastructure (CTHI).

This week, P4A’s Sharmalene Mendis-Millard and Sumana Mitra had the opportunity to showcase our research on #ResilientRetrofits at the Building Resilient Communities Conference in Penticton, BC! Why do we need to retrofit existing homes and buildings to withstand climate hazards?🏠🛠️ The answer is simple. Much of Canada’s housing infrastructure was not designed for today’s multi-hazard reality. Canadians are facing more frequent and severe hazards, like winter storms, flooding, wildfires, extreme heat, extreme wind storms, and more—yet there are many resilience measures that can be implemented at the property level to help protect homes from damage ☀️⛈️❄️🔥 The P4A team has been fortunate to collaborate with Halifax Regional Municipality and National Research Council Canada / Conseil national de recherches Canada to bring this research to life—primarily through the development and refinement of a multi-hazard database designed to help contractors and homeowners assess potential retrofit options for different building areas. Stay tuned for the official launch of our #ClimateResilientRetrofits database, and to learn more from our team’s research findings! #ClimateAdaptation #DisasterRiskReduction #HousingResilience #HomeRetrofits #BuildingSolutions #ClimateReady #MultiHazard #AdaptationSolutions #EPBCC #BRCC #friendofBRC #BRCSociety #BRCconference #CanadaAdapts

🌳✨ What a fantastic field trip for the RFR workshop! Last week, we explored Cooksville Park and vibrant Saigon Park in Mississauga. We learned more about the City of Mississauga's plans to support parkland acquisition and toured Saigon Park which houses a stormwater management pond and provides ample recreational opportunities for neighbouring residents. On behalf of our team, we extend our gratitude to our City of Mississauga hosts, Sharon Chapman, Muneef Ahmed and Benjamin Gallagher for graciously leading the site tour. Here’s to learning in nature! 😊💚 #RFRWorkshop #ClimateResilience #ManagedRetreat #NFRF #communityconnections
