In Manitoba, NPs are invaluable providers in personal care homes, which continue to face critical shortages of healthcare professionals. Timely, quality care provided onsite by NPs directly reduces the need for hospitalizations and emergency visits. The COVID-19 pandemic illustrated the importance of onsite leadership; facilities with designated offsite professionals suffered disproportionate rates of infection and mortality. In contrast, the presence of NPs within long term care facilities significantly improves responsiveness to resident needs, enhancing the quality and timeliness of care. https://lnkd.in/dESdQzMK

I absolutely love the creativity which NPs channel into their careers! Congratulations on your new book Kimberley Harkness NP, MN, GNC(C)!!
Two-time Bloomberg Nursing alum Kim Harkness has created a children’s book, to help both young people and their parents learn a bit more about the importance of the role of nurse practitioners. Told from the point of view of a 4-year old, based on Harkness’ own son, the book covers all of the many things a nurse practitioner does, from working in clinics and diagnosing patients, to working in the community with other professions to ensure many different people have access to the care they need. Throughout Ontario, we are fortunate to have incredible nurse practitioners who work hard to take care of us when we need it most. As we mark Nurse Practitioner Week, I want to thank our health-care heroes for playing such an important role delivering connected and convenient care close to home.

NPs extend their expertise into specialties such as neonatology, palliative care, adolescent medicine, psychiatry, heart failure, cardiac surgery, outreach work in northern Quebec, and several others. Their work is crucial in enhancing our healthcare model while ensuring patients receive the best care possible. Through their leadership and expertise, NPs drive initiatives to improve care, play a vital role in training the next generation of clinicians, and contribute to the evolution of healthcare by presenting at conferences.

Nurse Practitioners play a crucial role in improving the quality of life by facilitating the deprescribing of antipsychotics in long-term care homes. Increasing the number of NPs in these facilities is essential. High use of antipsychotics in care homes: https://lnkd.in/gTVHmmDX

I often get the question, “What is a Nurse Practitioner?”
U Z O M A on Instagram: "Nurse practitioners are highly trained professionals who provide comprehensive care to Manitobans. Nurse Practitioners can diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, and even order images and lab tests. We’re proud to support NPs and work together to expand their reach and maximize their full scope across Manitoba. Thanks @nursepractitioner.ca CEO Ashley Carruthers for sh
