  • On this National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women, we honour the memory of the 14 women who lost their lives so tragically and senselessly in the École Polytechnique shooting on December 6, 1989. Their names were Geneviève Bergeron; Hélène Colgan; Nathalie Croteau; Barbara Daigneault; Anne-Marie Edward; Maud Haviernick; Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz; Maryse Laganière; Maryse Leclair; Anne-Marie Lemay; Sonia Pelletier; Michèle Richard; Annie St-Arneault; and Annie Turcotte. Please take a moment to honour them and their families, and to make a personal commitment to end gender-based violence within our country. • For Indigenous women in Canada, #16Days of Activism also highlights the ongoing national crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+), rooted in systemic racism, colonial violence, and socio-economic inequities. Reports like Reclaiming Power and Place have shed light on this tragedy, providing calls to justice to address and prevent violence against Indigenous communities. Wearing a moose hide pin is a symbol of your personal commitment to ending violence against women and children and all those along the gender continuum. https://lnkd.in/gPNKr2Hy

📊 The statistics are staggering: nearly 1 in 3 women will experience violence in their lifetime. In 2023 alone, every 10 minutes, a woman was intentionally killed by a partner or family member. Indigenous women face even harsher realities: 63% have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, with rates of intimate partner violence at 44%, significantly higher than non-Indigenous women. This crisis is not just a statistic; it affects our communities deeply. As we engage in these 16 Days of Activism, let’s confront these harsh realities and advocate for systemic changes that protect our sisters and ensure justice for all survivors. Your voice matters—join us in calling for action! 📢 #NoExcuse #16Days #UNiTE #EndGenderBasedViolence
