About us
We fund mental research that meets the needs of Canadians. Mental Health Research Canada (MHRC) funds innovative mental health research that addresses the urgent and specific needs of Canadians. We engage with a diverse group of stakeholders nation-wide and all levels of government to determine the most pressing research questions. Then we put out a call for research submissions and select the best researchers in Canada to undertake the study. The result: mental health research that serves the unique needs of individual communities from coast to coast to coast. Follow us on: Twitter: @MHRCanada Facebook: @MHRCanada

There was a time when mental health challenges were only addressed in moments of crisis... Thanks to research, we now understand the social, environmental, and biological factors at play — like financial insecurity, substance use, or limited support systems. This knowledge empowers proactive support, improving outcomes and reducing long-term struggles. A donation to MHRC is more than a gift — it’s an investment in a healthier future for all.

Our latest data shows that self-reported anxiety is on the rise, but access to mental health care has decreased since our last poll in July. More Canadians are struggling with anxiety, yet fewer are seeking help. Barriers such as high costs and long waitlists are preventing many from accessing the care they need.
