The Story Behind the Need for MedInclude at Grand River Hospital During an internal assessment at Grand River Hospital, the hospital’s Office of Innovation & Research identified a critical gap in medical translation for patient communication. Patients were struggling to understand their care plans, treatment options, and health education due to language barriers—a challenge that could no longer be overlooked. 💬 As shared by the hospital’s Innovation Team: "There was a sheer need to have medical information translated into the patient’s language... This was a big problem that needed to be addressed." MedInclude is proud to partner with Grand River Hospital to ensure that every patient understands their care, regardless of the language they speak. Because clear communication saves lives. Let's lay out the facts. 📌 98% of Canada's growth in 2023 was from immigration. We know that over 70% of those immigrants have a primary language other than English or French. When they need healthcare, communicating with providers becomes a burden not only on them, but on their doctors and nurses too. 📌 About 20% of Canada's population are seniors 65 years old and up. 82% of those seniors have a chronic health issue. This means ongoing communication with healthcare providers, revisits, re-explaining instruction, etc. 📌 In 2021, Canadian doctors worked 20 hours more than the average Canadian and over 50% of doctors reported feeling burnout. We know those doctors don't need more missed appointments and unnecessary hospital revisits that are due to miscommunication with patients. 📌 Healthcare budgets are ever shrinking. With overworked doctors and a shortage of nurses, patient communication and health outcomes take a negative hit leading to a revolving door of unhealthy patients and overworked healthcare providers. If you are wondering how healthcare organizations, providers, and administrators can get ahead of these numbers as a sector, you are not alone. We built MedInclude specifically to address these challenges by leveraging technology to simplify the provider-patient communication process, increase hospital efficiency, and bring better patient outcomes. Health organizations that aren't already exploring technology in patient communication are at a disadvantage. Send me a note and let's show you how MedInclude can support you and the providers in your network. MedInclude, a health-tech startup focused on improving health-care communication has announced an exciting new partnership with Grand River Hospital (GRH) to address communication challenges within the hospital’s Renal Program. This collaboration — a pre-commercialization project spanning three months — will leverage MedInclude’s innovative platform to enhance patient engagement and streamline interactions between health-care providers and patients. Founder and CEO of MedInclude, Seun Adetunji, MBET (MBET ’24), designed the platform to tackle inefficiencies in patient-provider communication. For many patients, especially those with limited proficiency in English or those who struggle to understand medical terminology, receiving and retaining medical instructions can present a significant barrier to effective care. MedInclude’s solution enhances understanding by simplifying complex medical jargon, helping to increase access to care for patients from diverse backgrounds. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gusZRxJ4 University of Waterloo University of Waterloo Faculty of Engineering Carla Girolametto Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario | Agence fédérale de ...
