KDH is committed to patient and staff safety! Members of the hospital’s Senior Leadership Team, Board of Directors and Patient & Family Advisory Committee were joined by staff to conduct the latest Safety Leadership Rounds yesterday. The purpose is to identify patient and staff safety risk issues from a staff perspective, implement concrete actions in a timely manner, improve communication between staff and management, and further enhance a patient safety culture at KDH.

It’s International Volunteer Day (December 5) and KDH has some of the best volunteers in the world! Our wonderful volunteers play many important roles at KDH, including greeting people in the ER, assisting on the Interim Long-Term Care/Convalescent Care unit, providing valuable input to improve the patient experience and much more. Thank you goes out to our Auxiliary, Patient & Family Advisory Committee and Board of Directors!

Congratulations to KDH’s own June (back row, second from left) on her retirement today! She’s worked in our Health Records department as a booking clerk for 24 years. Thank you for everything you’ve done for the hospital and we wish you all the best as you embark on your next adventures!

KDH held its annual Retirement and Long Service Awards Banquet last night. It was wonderful to recognize staff and physicians for 10, 15, 20, 25 and even 35 years of service in 2024! KDH also celebrated its recent retirees, who contributed so much to the organization. A big thank you goes out to KDH's own Emilee, Steph, Kaitlin and Julia for organizing!

It’s Perioperative Nurses Week (November 10 – 16) and KDH would like to recognize our wonderful nurses who work in the surgical day unit! They provide excellent care to our patients before, during and after surgeries. Thank you for being an integral part of KDH!

It’s Nurse Practitioner (NP) Week (November 10 – 16) and KDH would like to recognize the important role of NPs in healthcare. From providing compassionate care and improving outcomes, NPs make a real difference every day. They can diagnose patients, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications and develop treatment plans. KDH’s own Katie Hogue, VP of Nursing/Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive, is proud to be an NP and hopes to inspire more people join the profession!

It’s International Accounting Day (November 10) and KDH has some of the best working in our finance department! Whether they’re crunching numbers or filling out spreadsheets, these folks help keep our hospital on track. Thank you for your attention to detail and dedication! You’re an invaluable part of KDH.

It’s Medical Radiation Technologists Week (November 3 to 9) and KDH would like to recognize its hardworking team in Diagnostic Imaging! They are regulated health professionals who provide safe, effective and ethical care during your diagnostic imaging procedure. Thank you to the team for contributing to patient care in such an invaluable way! Did you know that x-rays were discovered on November 8, 1895, forever changing medical care?

It’s Canadian Patient Safety Week (October 28 to November 1) and KDH always has patient safety in mind. Our patients are at the heart of everything we do, from regular training exercises to practising proper PPE and sharing information. KDH is committed to patient safety, which is one of the hospital’s core values, and looks at each day through a patient safety lens.
