Before you lock up for the weekend on Fridays, please check your workplace for hidden hazards. While you may know where all the dangers and hazards are, a first responder entering in an emergency might not. https://lnkd.in/g-wFisu #workplacesafety #safetyforfirstresponders #safetyforall

Workplace safety matters...because everyone deserves to get home safely.
About us
About John Petropoulos John Petropoulos was born on May 13, 1968 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. John married his girlfriend of eight years, Maryanne Pope, in July of 1996 and then fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer with the Calgary Police Service in October of that same year. Const. John Petropoulos passed away in the line of duty on Sept. 29, 2000. John was investigating a break and enter complaint when he stepped through a false ceiling, fell nine feet into the lunchroom below and succumbed to brain injuries. There was no safety railing to warn him of the danger. He was 32. About the Memorial Fund After his death, several of John’s recruit classmates set up the John Petropoulos Memorial Fund (JPMF). Our safety initiatives offer people tangible tips they can implement in their workplaces and on the roads to help ensure emergency responders make it home safely to their families after every shift. The JPMF was incorporated as a non-profit society in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on Dec. 29, 2005. It was officially registered as a charitable organization with the Canada Revenue Agency as of March 14, 2011. The legal name is the John Petropoulos Memorial Fund Society and the registration number is 80727 5870 RR0001. Mission Statement We strive to eliminate preventable workplace fatalities and injuries to emergency responders by educating the public about its role in helping to keep these essential workers safe on the job.

It's the season -- snow and snow plows. Please give snow plows room to work safely. Please don't pass a snow plow until it moves over to allow you to pass safely. #ABRoads ##ABstorm #DriveSafe #snowplowsafety #roadsafety #SnowSeason #Alberta #Canada #winterdriving #roadsafety #snowfallAB #wintersafety #snowplows

Please assess your workplace from the perspective of a first responder entering it in an emergency. * Is it safe for them? * Are there hidden dangers a first responder wouldn’t know about? * Are there cluttered floors that act as tripping hazards? * Are all emergency exits accessible? * Are all alarms functioning properly? * Is sensor lighting installed? * Are dangerous chemicals properly stored and labeled? Make your workplace safe for all who enter. #ProtectThoseWhoProtectUs #safetyforemployees #ourboots #safetyforfirstresponders #safetymatters #firstresponders #safety #police #firefighters #ems #paramedics #EMT #workplacesafetycheck

Since 2020 in North America, more than 80 first responders have been struck and killed by motorists. Working on the roads is one of the biggest safety risks first responders face. Please slow down, move over, and always pay attention while driving. Never drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. #slowdown #putthephonesdown #distracteddrivingdangers #firstresponders #distracteddrivingkills #safety #roadsafety #distracteddrivingawareness #roadsafety #safetyforfirstresponders #prevention #ohs #FactFriday #distracteddriving #SafetyFirst #ProtectThoseWhoProtectUs #prevention #preventabledeaths

Distracted driving can be deadly. Please pay attention while driving and if you see emergency personnel (police, fire, EMS & tow truck drivers) working on the road, please SLOW DOWN and give them room to work. https://lnkd.in/dBNzptDN #roadsafety #distracteddriving #safetyforfirstresponders #safetyfortowtruckoperators #policesafety #safetyforfirefighters #sadetyforems #ems #safetyforparamedics #towtrucks

Every workplace must allow employees to speak up about safety concerns AND be heard by management. Tim DesGrosseilliers‘ death was preventable, but no one in the company heeded his concerns. He died on the job while installing an elevator motor. #workplacesafety #preventworkplacefatalities #workersrights #preventworkplaceinjuries #workplacesafetymatters #safetyforworkers #reportallsafetyissues #reportnearmisses #safetyforworkers #safety #ohs #speakupforsafety #safetyculture #speakup #safetymatters #ehs

Young workers are at greater risk than experienced employees. They need thorough safety training and proper supervision. Typical reasons why young workers are injured include: 1. Inexperience 2. Lack of training, orientation, and supervision 3. Lack of understanding of their workplace 4. Lack of preparation for the workplace 5. Exposure to more dangerous jobs 6. Hesitancy to ask questions Before your teen starts a job, please talk to them about the importance of safety, safety training, and the right to refuse dangerous work that they are untrained to do. For more helpful safety information, please visit Missing Tim, a website created by Julie Hamilton, whose son Tim was killed on the job at age 19. http://MissingTim.com #missingtim #workplacesafety #safetyforteens #talktoteensaboutsafety #youngworkersandsafety #safetyforyoungworkers #safetytraining #safetytrainingismandatory #ohs #workplacesafety #ehs #safety

November is Fall Prevention Month in Canada. To prevent fall injuries, it‘s imperitive employers supply workers with guardrail or safety rail systems, safety net systems, and personal fall arrest systems when working at heights. Please ensure all employees are trained on how to properly use fall protection. Safety training is critical. #prevention #falls #NovemberFallProtectionMonth #safetyrailings #guardrails #fallarrestsystems #workingatheights #fallprevention

Emergency responders are busy in Alberta today with the freshly fallen snow. Please respect the flashing lights of emergency vehicles. Always provide the right of way. Slow down and move over.
