  • Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent, leaving many without power. British Columbia recently experienced a record-setting Bomb Cyclone, which drove widespread power outages and broke wind speed records. While a second Bomb Cyclone is forecasted for B.C.’s South Coast, it is expected to remain weaker than the previous storm. Something to consider: Electric vehicles (EVs) can provide backup power for your home. Through a technology called vehicle-to-home or “bidirectional charging,” EVs can transfer energy from their batteries to power essential home systems during outages. This turns your EV into a generator, offering a reliable backup solution. 🌍⚡ #BC #CleanEnergy #ExtremeWeather

  • As Canada pushes towards 100% zero-emission vehicle sales by 2035, one of the major roadblocks remains: insufficient EV charging infrastructure. A recent AutoTrader survey highlights concerns over charger accessibility, reliability, and overall user experience. The new CSA Group publication, CSA TS-802:24, tackles these challenges head-on by offering a harmonized approach to deploying EV charging infrastructure across Canada. For fleet managers, this is a game changer. 🚛 Here's why: 1️⃣ Better access: Guidance on installing EV chargers at public, private, and workplace locations ensures convenient charging for fleet vehicles. 2️⃣ Safety & reliability: The specification emphasizes the safe installation and operation of chargers, critical for minimizing downtime and maximizing fleet efficiency. 3️⃣ Improved user experience: Interoperability across networks and systems means fewer disruptions and a smoother charging experience for drivers. • How municipal governments can make the shift to sustainability - easier. The Green Municipal Fund (GMF) is leading the charge towards a sustainable future, with $2.4B in funding aimed at transforming communities across Canada. • When was the last time you reviewed your fleet policies? 🚨 Policy and procedure development, along with safe work practices and user guides, are essential components of effective fleet management. These documents are not just for show—they play a critical role in ensuring that safety requirements are met, regulatory standards are upheld, and operational consistency is maintained. One of the biggest dangers of neglecting these policies is the increased risk of accidents, whether in the workshop or on the road. Non-standard methods, like improper reporting of near-miss incidents, can lead to serious oversights and put your entire operation at risk. To mitigate these risks, it’s important to document current practices clearly for both new and existing employees. This ensures everyone is operating on the same page and adhering to the same standards. Most organizations have some form of policy documentation, but it’s often not adequate. Best management practices recommend a detailed review every 5 years to ensure these documents are still relevant and effective.
