The National Initiative for Eating Disorders estimates that a staggering 2.7 million people in Canada are impacted by an eating disorder; with approximately 1.4 millions of these being youth. Eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Avoidance Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), and Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED) are among the most misunderstood mental health conditions. Unlike the most commonly held belief, eating disorders do not just affect young women- they can impact anyone, regardless of age, gender, or body type. At Homewood Health Centre, individuals in the inpatient Eating Disorder Program receive medically-based treatment to assist in redeveloping and restoring healthy attitudes and eating habits. Today, we recognize the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. In Canada and globally, violence against women, girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ individuals remains a harsh reality—worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is about remembering those who have experienced gender-based violence and those who we have lost to it.
