As we wrap up the year, we are proud to announce our newest funded projects, all of which are driving innovative and impactful climate action. Congratulations to Every One Every Day, who are electrifying their shared social infrastructure program in North End Halifax;, AzSpecd Solutions, who are exploring the feasibility of small wind turbines in Mi’kmaw communities and in HRM; North Preston Medical Society, who are planning for a deep energy retrofit of the North Preston Daycare; EV4U, who are seeking to scale shared electric vehicle pilot programs in various HRM communities Delmore “Buddy” Daye Learning Institute, who are installing solar-powered playground lighting in Upper Hammonds Plains; and Halifax Cycling Coalition, who are launching the Cycling Guide in HRM to make cycling safer and more accessible. BlueGrid is collaborating with Halifax Transit to explore cleaner and more efficient options for the Halifax-Dartmouth ferry fleet. Through detailed data collection and analysis of the Viola Desmond ferry, this partnership is providing the insights needed to assess the feasibility and requirements of transitioning to electric ferries. Building confidence and creating community on two wheels! The Halifax Cycling Experiences program empowered residents to embrace cycling through hands-on workshops, city rides, and trail adventures. With multilingual resources and inclusive programming, this initiative made cycling accessible to everyone, from beginners to experienced riders. Last week, we had the privilege of attending the Atlantic Canada Solar Summit with Solar Nova Scotia, where our team member Julia Sable, along with Randy Headley from the Delmore "Buddy" Daye Learning Institute and researcher Shakara R., offered a panel on "Empowering Equity-Seeking Communities through Clean Energy." The panelists discussed hands-on experience working with Black communities to deepen understanding of climate action in ways that were culturally appropriate, inclusive and empowering. The Solar Summit featured sessions on technical advances and best practices in solar energy and grid integration, as well as an inspiring keynote on the power of collaboration and a rousing closing session by comedian James Mullinger. We’re grateful to conference organizer Lara Ryan and all the attendees for the chance to learn from so many passionate leaders.

Huge congratulations to the Trottier Family Foundation for their leadership in a ground-breaking initiative! They have joined with eight other Canadian foundations to collectively commit an incredible $405 million to climate action through the Climate Champions initiative coordinated by the Clean Economy Fund. This initiative seeks to triple annual climate philanthropy in Canada by 2030. Eric St. Pierre, executive director of Trottier Family Foundation, called this first round of commitments a "call to action." Trottier Family Foundation has long been a leader in this space, and was instrumental in establishing the Low Carbon Cities Canada network, which includes our organization.
