Today, the Indigenous Employee Circle, in partnership with Elder Myeengun Henry and Firekeepers, gathered with team members, patients, and community members around Sacred Fires at the KW and Freeport Campuses. At St. Mary’s, Kelly Welch, a proud member of the Flying Post First Nation, shared the gift of a Drumming Circle. Thank you to everyone who came together to honour the changing seasons, to listen deeply, to learn, and to build connections rooted in respect and understanding.

Today, Grand River Hospital observes the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, honouring the lives lost to gender-based violence. Thirty-five years ago, the tragic Polytechnique Montréal massacre claimed 14 women’s lives, an act of gender-based violence that continues to resonate deeply. Since then, gender-based violence has escalated, affecting countless individuals and families. We stand in solidarity with those facing violence due to their gender, gender expression, gender identity or perceived gender. We think of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls whose families grieve and wish them home. We stand with the 2SLGTBQIA+ community, who continue to face increased violence. Join CFUW K-W for a vigil at 5:30pm at St. Columba Anglican Church, 250 Lincoln Road, Waterloo. All are welcome to join in speeches, music, and refreshments. 🔗https://lnkd.in/g3zHMD2Y

Today, on International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), we honour the strength, resilience, and contributions of people with disabilities around the world. 🌍 Did you know about Direct Funding? It's a program in Ontario that empowers adults with physical disabilities to take control of their care. Through this program, participants become employers of their own attendants, who assist with daily activities like dressing, grooming, and bathing. This isn’t just about care—it’s about independence, dignity, and choice. By managing their own budgets and employees, participants are at the center of decisions that impact their lives. Learn more 🔗https://www.dfontario.ca. Let’s celebrate the incredible strength of individuals with disabilities and continue working towards a world where everyone is embraced, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive.

We’re thrilled to share that MedInclude, a Velocity health-tech startup founded by Waterloo alum Seun Adetunji, MBET, has partnered with Grand River Hospital to revolutionize patient communication using AI. MedInclude’s platform simplifies medical jargon, translates documents into multiple languages, and even incorporates voice-to-text and text-to-voice features to break down communication barriers. This pilot project in the Renal Program aims to address challenges faced by patients with limited English proficiency while empowering health-care providers to deliver more efficient, patient-centered care.
