Celebrate the holiday season by making a gift to Food Banks Mississauga’s Holiday Drive, helping us raise $2,500,000 (our biggest goal yet) to provide food for 2,500,000 meals to neighbours facing food insecurity across Mississauga. With 1 in 13 Mississauga residents visiting a food bank, your monetary contribution will ensure that neighbours will have access to food to make nutritious and balanced meals this holiday and beyond. In this season of generosity, we encourage you to give back to your neighbours in need: https://lnkd.in/gyEf2kYR 🎁 The Holiday Drive is proudly sponsored by the Nissan Canada Foundation. #FoodBanksMississauga NISSAN MOTOR CORPORATION

Food Banks Mississauga - Together for food security.
About us
Food Banks Mississauga is the leading food security organization in Mississauga. They lead a network of 60+ agency members, including neighbourhood food banks, pantries, cupboards and meal and snack programs, working together to realize a food-secure Mississauga. Through their network, they provide healthy and appropriate food for almost 6 million meals each year to neighbours facing food insecurity across Mississauga. The Mississauga Food Bank is now Food Banks Mississauga! While our name and branding have changed to reflect how our work in the community has evolved, how we support neighbours facing food insecurity has not changed. We’re still doing the same critical work we’ve always done, helping neighbours get the food and support they need to live full, happy, and healthy lives.

We are so thankful to Mississauga Foundation for joining us in responding to the food insecurity emergency our city is facing. When they heard the City of Mississauga passed a motion to officially make this declaration, they took immediate action. Not only have they donated $10,000 to provide food support to neighbours in need today, they also set up two ways for supporters to make short and long-term gifts through the Mississauga Foundation. It’s only through collective action that we can make the greatest impact to help our neighbours and we are grateful Mississauga Foundation stands alongside us. 🙌 To learn more about giving through Mississauga Foundation, visit: https://lnkd.in/gf58bHB6

Food Banks Mississauga ❤️’s the Mississauga Rebels Hockey Club! 🏒 For the second year in a row, the Mississauga Rebels have supported their neighbours experiencing food insecurity by donating, volunteering, and fundraising! They’ve already donated $5,000, volunteered for a total of 108 hours, and their Hunger Warriors fundraiser has raised (so far!) over $2,000 for their neighbours in need across Mississauga. Thank you, Mississauga Rebels! 🏒❤️

Last year, #HungerWarrior Trinity sold hot chocolate and offered pictures at a winter photo booth to folks visiting her neighbour's Christmas light display in order to raise funds and shelf-stable food for Food Banks Mississauga. Her efforts raised over $2,200 and this year, Trinity was inspired to raise at least $2,500 for her neighbours experiencing food insecurity! Trinity hosted her second ‘Pitch in for a Picture’ event last weekend, and tells us she has already surpassed her goal! 🎉🎉 Trinity shares, ‘Being a Hunger Warrior has taught me a lot about community. I have witnessed first-hand how quickly a community comes together to help those in need. I have also seen how dedicated Food Banks Mississauga is to ending hunger in our city, and would recommend to anyone to start their journey as a Hunger Warrior to learn more about their own community and the people in it!’ ➡️ To donate to Trinity’s campaign, visit: https://lnkd.in/gdN7Dbrf ➡️ To become a Hunger Warrior yourself, visit: https://lnkd.in/gKK-tbX8

Each year, we run a free, virtual tax clinic for folks with modest incomes. (Last year, we helped file 506 tax returns with over $2.7 million returned to neighbours in need!) We're in search of volunteers to help run our clinic again this year! If you... 👉 Possess a strong understanding of the Canadian tax system and tax filing processes 👉 Are proficient with computers and virtual meeting software 👉 Have a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail 👉 Consider yourself empathetic, patient, and professional 👉 Can commit to 4-6 hours per week from March to May 👉 Want to make a positive difference for folks in need ... we'd love to connect with you! Today is #HumanRightsDay. Here at Food Banks Mississauga, we agree with the UN’s 1948 Universal Declaration that food is part of the human right to an adequate standard of living. We believe everyone deserves access to healthful food and necessities to live a full life, regardless of any aspect of their identity. In light of the recent declaration of a food insecurity emergency by the city of Mississauga, we have received questions around the criteria for who is allowed to use a food bank and how we prevent “misuse”. Our belief that food is a human right is the lens through which we operate and provide food to those seeking support. We appreciate the generosity of our donors and are committed to stewarding every dollar with transparency and integrity to ensure every donation is used as intended to support our mission to realize a food-secure Mississauga. This past August, we shared a heartwarming story of a group of cousins who organized a lemonade stand to raise money for Food Banks Mississauga and Sick Kids Hospital. This morning, as part of CBC's #MakeTheSeasonKind holiday fundraiser, CBC's Metro Morning interviewed Armaan, Kyrah, and Lizzie about why they chose to raise money for their neighbours experiencing food insecurity. As Lizzie shared, “It's a human right that every person should have food when they're hungry.” We couldn't agree more. ❤️

Today is National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. At Food Banks Mississauga, we recognize that food insecurity is experienced by many survivors of gender-based violence. According to one of our agency members, Embrave, which supports survivors of gender-based violence, many survivors are denied access to their finances and refused opportunities to gain financial literacy skills by their abusers. This can lead them to have significant fear and uncertainty in managing their finances, and for some, can lead to returning to their abuser. Embrave shares that they hear from survivors that “one of their greatest fears in transitioning out of our shelters is not being able to afford basic needs for themselves and their children.” A number of our agency members, including Embrave Agency to End Violence, Armagh, Sakeenah Canada, and Women & Children Social Networking, work directly with survivors of gender-based violence. Your donations allow us to not only provide food support to survivors while they are staying with our agency members, but also support food banks across Mississauga so survivors can be assured they have ongoing access to nutritious food for themselves and their families. 💜 #ComeTogetherActNow #16Days #GenderBasedViolence #NationalDayOfRemembranceAndActionOnViolenceAgainstWomen
