The ETRO team switched gears for an evening to support an amazing charity and initiative in the community, and it’s becoming an annual tradition amongst our team. We headed back to Save On Meats in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside to volunteer with A Better Life Foundation and their inspiring Plenty of Plates (POP) program. Together, we prepared, cooked, and served hot, delicious meals to members of the community who often go without. It was an unforgettable evening filled with connection, teamwork, and the rewarding experience of giving back. Big congratulations to Don Nguyen, Sean Gilbert, and Osiris Fola for receiving the Q4 Whatever It Takes (WIT) Award! At our 837 Beatty Street project for Reliance Properties Ltd. these three have been true champions, taking on the relentless rain and water intrusion for the past three months. Sealing off the third floor while building the vertical core has been no small feat, but their unwavering dedication, late nights, and problem-solving expertise have brought us closer to achieving a mid-construction water-tight status. Their incredible efforts are also protecting the heritage elements of this building, ensuring its legacy endures. Congratulations to our Safety Champion for Q3 2024, Maral Habibi! As one of our dedicated Construction Safety Officers, Maral works tirelessly to ensure workplace safety and prevent injuries every single day—a challenging but vital role. Maral’s passion for safety extends beyond her daily duties. She’s an active member of ETRO’s Health & Safety Committee, contributing to Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS) discussions to continuously enhance our workplace practices. Recently, Maral wrapped up the Brightside Community Homes project on a high note and is now bringing her expertise to the UBC team, supporting their ongoing safety requirements. Take a stroll down memory lane with us as we reflect on the rich history of Vancouver’s iconic buildings! One standout is Muro, formerly known as Berkeley Tower, which our team revitalized in 2022. Originally completed in 1959, Berkeley Tower was the first residential high-rise in Vancouver’s West End, rising 16 storeys and addressing the growing need for apartment living in the heart of the city. Through ETRO’s Revive services, we transformed this historic gem with seismic upgrades, renovations, and restorations, all while preserving its mid-century charm. The final touch was a stunning mural by the renowned Douglas Coupland, adding a bold and artistic statement to the building. From its roots in 1959 to its refreshed identity today, it’s been an honour to breathe new life into Muro, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of the West End community for generations to come. It’s Giving Tuesday! GivingTuesday marks the global movement of generosity and community impact—a day where individuals, charities, and companies come together to support the causes they care about. Through our ETRO Gives program, we’re proud to share that in 2024 alone, we’ve raised $80,672 in support of remarkable organizations such as Foundry, The Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of British Columbia (Crisis Centre), and The KidSafe Project Society. Beyond financial support, it’s been deeply fulfilling to partner with these charities and witness the amazing work they do to uplift vulnerable members of our community. Our team is also excited to give back this holiday season by volunteering and supporting upcoming initiatives with several incredible charities, including: - Plenty of Plates put on by A Better Life Foundation: Preparing and serving dinner for vulnerable members of the Downtown Eastside Community. - Langley Christmas Bureau: Purchasing, wrapping, and delivering gifts to 5 families in need. - Boxes of Hope put on by Whole Way House: Providing needed items and thoughtful gifts to low-income seniors, veterans, and vulnerable residents in the community.
