Happy Halloween! What's something spooky that you're doing today... Share in the comments or send us a message! At Epilepsy Durham Region, the challenges we face can be downright frightening. Here are just a few things that give us chills: 🧠 1 in 100 people in Ontario live with epilepsy – That's thousands of families navigating an unpredictable and often misunderstood condition. Imagine not knowing when a seizure could strike. 🏥 Lack of specialized care – Despite the urgency, access to epilepsy-specific healthcare services remains limited, leaving many in prolonged periods of uncertainty and fear. 🕒 Lengthy wait times for diagnosis and treatment – Early intervention can make all the difference, but many endure months—even years—of waiting before receiving the critical care they need. #epilepsyawareness #happyhalloween

Myth: All seizures involve convulsions. Fact: Seizures can manifest in many different ways. Not all seizures look the same, and some don't involve convulsions at all. For example, absence seizures may look like a brief staring spell, where someone may seem to "space out" for a few seconds. 💜 Greater awareness of the different types of seizures helps us all be better allies and advocates. Let's work together to understand epilepsy better. #EpilepsyAwareness #EndTheStigma #KnowEpilepsy #FactFriday
