The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba reposted this
Manitoba’s health system leaders have committed to disrupting racism and discrimination in all forms, including the elimination of Indigenous-specific racism across all programs and services. This work begins with acknowledgement of wrongs and resulting harms and recognition that many health services in Manitoba are not equitable in access, experience or outcomes. First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples face real and lasting health gaps related to historic and current experiences and institutions grounded in colonialism and racism. Efforts to disrupt racism across Manitoba must include real and meaningful responses to Indigenous-specific racism and the pursuit of healing and reconciliation. New training is now available to help Manitoba health care workers implement daily practices that support the provision of culturally safe and anti-racist care. The training, Giga Mino Ganawenimaag Anishinaabeg meaning We Will Take Good Care of the People in Anishinaabemowin, was developed locally by Ongomiizwin Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing, in partnership with Manitoba’s health regions.
