This week, Shell Recharge informed US and Canadian customers that it would discontinue CPMS service on April 30, 2025. This follows the closure of Enel X Way and EVBox's North American EV charging businesses. What's going on here? In the case of Shell, it is shutting down software services for third-party site hosts to focus on its Shell-owned charging network. This makes sense—Shell's public network has now passed 70,000 chargers globally. This network is core to the evolution of Shell's retail fuel offering. Providing charger management software is not. It is a similar story for Enel X Way and EVBox. Enel is a global energy company and North American charger sales were a distraction from its core business. Similarly, EVBox was a side quest from the core business of its owner, Engie. But what happens to all the chargers that were managed by these discontinued software services? This is where providers like ChargeLab step in. EV charger management *is* our core business. ChargeLab was created specifically to solve charger management for every business, utility, and fleet. If your business is on Enel X Way, Shell Sky, or any other CPMS/CSMS that is being discontinued, reach out to our team today.

Today, after a year of hard work, we are excited to announce our beta launch of Spark™, a suite of AI-powered tools for proactive EV charger monitoring and maintenance. Charger reliability and uptime has become a significant challenge for the industry. So we asked ourselves, "what if we could use advanced machine learning and generative AI to prevent EV charger downtime?" The result is Spark™, which identifies potential issues before they impact EV drivers and resolves them automatically whenever possible. For more complex cases, Spark™ provides clear, human-readable instructions for network management specialists to act quickly. As Spark™ moves from alpha to beta today, we are welcoming more early customers to test and provide feedback on the platform. This is just the beginning—we will continue to build and refine! https://lnkd.in/d_kscvQn

Over the last 60 days since Enel X Way announced they were shutting down their NA EV charging business, ChargeLab has rescued over 1,400 Enel X Way commercial chargers, migrating them to the ChargeLab charging station management system (CSMS). Given that JuiceBox chargers were not communicating using OCPP, there is a lot of confusion about how ChargeLab pulled off this migration. Check out our latest blog post where we share more details: https://lnkd.in/dtTV58c2 If you manage commercial JuiceBox Pro chargers that 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 been migrated yet, please get in touch with our team today at https://lnkd.in/dfPgdeNh. Enel X Way servers are currently only scheduled to stay online for another month.

    CEO at ChargeLab ⚡️

55 days ago, Enel X Way shocked the North American EV charging industry by announcing an abrupt shutdown of its EV charging business. As part of the closure, Enel X Way planned to turn off its charging station management system (CSMS), a software used to monitor EV chargers, collect revenue from drivers, and manage energy output. Thousands of EV chargers were left stranded with minimal time to migrate to a new SaaS provider. What's worse? The vast majority of JuiceBox chargers were using a proprietary communication protocol, not OCPP. As many of you know, this is when ChargeLab jumped in. Despite numerous technical hurdles, we rapidly engineered a path to migrate JuiceBox Pro chargers to the ChargeLab CSMS. I'm very proud to share that our team has helped rescue over 1,400 commercial Enel X Way chargers as of today. Given that JuiceBox chargers were not communicating using OCPP, there is a lot of confusion about how ChargeLab pulled off this migration. Today, we're publishing a blog post to share more details. You can read it here: https://lnkd.in/gDx5_bBh If you manage commercial JuiceBox Pro chargers that 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 been migrated yet, please get in touch with our team today. Enel X Way servers are only scheduled to stay online for another month. We can keep your chargers functioning, independent of what happens to the legacy Enel X Way servers.

How ChargeLab's Platform Strategy Unlocked EV Infrastructure Adoption After watching Tesla build a closed charging ecosystem, Zak L. saw an opportunity for an open software platform. Today, ChargeLab has raised over $20M and powers charging networks across North America by providing the operating system that traditional businesses need to control their EV future. In this episode of Category Visionaries, Zak shared key lessons from selling infrastructure software into an emerging market. Here are the go-to-market insights: → Position Against Market Leader's Strengths. While Tesla offers a vertically integrated solution, ChargeLab became "the Android of EV charging," enabling customer control. → Time Market Entry Around Adoption. Started in 2016 but waited until 2019 to raise capital, when "every gas station with more than 20 sites... guaranteed is looking at" EV charging. → Turn Location into Advantage. Based in Toronto, they maintain in-house North American development while competitors offshore, delivering higher quality at competitive costs. → Reframe Value Proposition. Rather than sell charging as revenue opportunity, positioned it as essential amenity: "Nobody wants to spend $800,000 on a condo in a building that doesn't have a gym." → Focus on Removing Friction. Instead of adding features, they're "making it more frictionless for EV drivers and site owners," recognizing that infrastructure should be invisible. → Build Through Partners. As the market matured, they leveraged "a healthy ecosystem of partners that do the installs that sell the hardware" to focus purely on software. These insights from ChargeLab demonstrate how infrastructure software companies can successfully build platforms in emerging markets. Listen to the full conversation with Zak Lefevre on Category Visionaries to learn more about building adoption for infrastructure software. https://lnkd.in/dDx_WQ49
