Happy Earth Day! 💚🌍♻️ At CarbiCrete, we're proud to contribute to the global fight against rising emissions and #climatechange. We're helping to reduce the #carbonfootprint of #concrete, the most-used manmade material on #Earth, with our #innovative cement-free technology. #Cement is concrete's traditional binding agent. Though it only makes up about 10-15% of the concrete mix, it is responsible for nearly 90% of concrete's associated #emissions. The CarbiCrete process enables a 100% replacement of cement with steel slag, an #industrial byproduct. This can reduce concrete's #embodiedcarbon emissions while valorizing #waste and contributing to the #circulareconomy. In the CarbiCrete process, concrete products are cured with #carbondioxide in a specialized chamber. This #carbonmineralization further lowers the #environmentalimpact of the blocks and permanently removes emissions from the atmosphere by trapping them in a valuable #product through #carbondioxideremoval. Utilizing CarbiCrete #technology can ultimately reduce the embodied #carbon levels of concrete #masonry units by over 100% compared to conventional cement-based processes. About us
CarbiCrete is a Montreal-based carbon removal technology company whose patented technology enables the production of cement-free, carbon-negative concrete made with industrial by-products and captured carbon dioxide. For every ton of concrete produced using the CarbiCrete process, 150 kg of CO2 are abated/removed. Conventional concrete is made with cement, the production of which accounts for nearly 10% of the world’s CO2 emissions! We’ve replaced cement in the mix with steel slag, industrial waste that is far cheaper than cement. Using carbonation activation, CO2 is injected into the wet concrete to give it its strength. Because we capture and permanently sequester CO2 in the concrete, these products are carbon-negative. Our patented technology can be implemented in any concrete products plant.

There's been a lot of buzz about CarbiCrete's first ever Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), quantifying our #globalwarming potential (GWP) at 11.7 kg CO2e per cubic metre-- a 20X reduction compared to the #industry average. But why are EPDs important? Check out this video from Leila Schein at Climate Earth tackling EPDs, their significance, and their impact. Working with Climate Earth was crucial to producing CarbiCrete's EPD and accurately demonstrating the #carbon impact of our #technology. For more info on CarbiCrete and Climate Earth's partnership, be sure to sign up for our webinar on January 21: https://lnkd.in/eGPz2JsX
What’s an EPD? 🤔 Leila Schein, Climate Earth’s expert in LCA and EPDs, gives you the rundown—what they are, what they measure, and why they’re crucial for understanding a product’s environmental impact. Have burning questions about EPDs or LCAs? Watch the video, then like, share, or drop your questions in the comments—Leila’s ready to answer them! 👇 #EPD #Sustainability #LCA #CarbonEmissions #ClimateEarth

Last week, CarbiCrete CEO Jacob Homiller was joined by Clément Boisselier, Aecon Group Inc.’s Senior Advisor, Sustainability and Environment, and Nashat Andraws. P.Eng., Technical Performance & Data Transformation Manager, Innocon Inc, a subsidiary of Lafarge Canada, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Aecon's #innovation and training centre in #Ontario. The event marked the completion of the first low #carbon structure to be constructed using CarbiCrete’s cement-free #concrete masonry units (CMUs) and Lafarge Canada’s ECOpact concrete mix. We're proud to have been a part of this project. Through cross-sector collaboration, we can transform the #construction industry with deep #decarbonization and work toward #netzero #emissions goals. Last month, $1.2 billion was awarded in grants to accelerate the use of cleaner asphalt, #concrete, glass, and steel in the #UnitedStates. With the production of #cement, concrete's key ingredient, accounting for over 7% of all global #emissions each year, funding like this is crucial for advancing #innovation in the sector. At CarbiCrete, we're producing concrete that contains no cement and helps to remove #CO2 from the atmosphere permanently. We're proud to be contributing to the transformation of concrete, the world's most-used manmade #material. To create an effective #sustainability strategy, many corporate #climate action plans are incorporating emissions reduction with support of novel #carbondioxide removal (CDR) technologies. CarbiCrete employs CDR to trap carbon dioxide in our cement-free #concrete products, permanently removing the pollutant from the atmosphere. "To effectively limit temperature rise, we must drastically reduce ongoing #emissions, as well as deploy carbon dioxide removal technologies to draw down excess atmospheric #CO2 already emitted." For the #construction industry, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are quickly becoming a required part of the planning process. EPDs quantify a product's environmental #impact and can help an #engineer, #architect, or #designer quantify the #carbonfootprint of a project. Interested in learning more about what an #EPD is, how to develop one, and why they're so important in #emissions intensive industries like #concrete?
