About us
The Canadian Centre for Child Protection is a charitable organization dedicated to the personal safety of all children. We do this through public awareness activities, our personal safety education program (Kids in the Know), our national tipline to report online sexual abuse of children (Cybertip.ca), our program to help organizations prevent child sexual abuse (Commit to Kids), and our new national missing children services program (MissingKids.ca).

“The whole system needs to be reformed because right now it’s a complete landmine.” We need government to regulate social media to help protect children from what Miranda's daughter experienced after being targeted and preyed upon online.

Two important articles from The New York Times highlighting – again – the absolute failures of tech companies to protect children. These companies turn a blind eye to what is happening on their platforms so they don’t have to take steps to fix it. Why is that an option? Pass the #OnlineHarmsBill https://lnkd.in/gS6M6aei https://lnkd.in/g6Dv42jV

I want to say a huge thank you to Carol, Barbie & Miranda for courageously sharing with the Standing Committee today. Their stories aren't easy to share, but they are willing to do it to protect other kids from the online harms their children suffered. https://lnkd.in/g3SRsauJ

A difficult decision for Justice Minister Virani today, but ultimately splitting Bill C-63 was the right one. From the beginning, the core of the #OnlineHarmsBill has been about prioritizing the safety and well-being of Canadian children. Splitting this bill will help ensure this urgently needed legislation can move forward and focus on one of the few things it seems we can at least all agree on: the need to protect our kids in digital spaces. I hope that with this change today, politics can be set aside, and all parties work together in good faith to bring Canada in line with other world nations that already have strong online protections for their youth. https://lnkd.in/grpxcMxG

This product for tweens & teens was recalled after "temporary adverse skin reactions". Meanwhile, thousands of youth have been sextorted on Snapchat & Instagram. Why don't we protect kids online the same way we protect them from creams? https://lnkd.in/gw_xZJRE

Canadian children and their parents are being left to fend for themselves because there are no regulations in place protecting them online. Hear from Canadian moms how their children were impacted by self-regulated social media. https://lnkd.in/gr4EJ9s2

This is why independent testing and academic studies of harm as teens experience it is so important. Meta has been knowingly misleading parents and regulators about how good a job they do of basic protections they could give our kids.

This is right on the mark. We’re going to look back and ask how it took us so long to regulate the platforms that children spend so much time on. “In 2025, parents will no longer be alone in tackling this problem. They will be assisted by concerned politicians and by phone-free schools. Social media companies, on the other hand, will finally acknowledge—or be forced to acknowledge by juries and legislatures—that they now own childhood, and they bear at least some responsibility for what they are doing to children.” Incredibly important and timely piece: https://lnkd.in/g2UxjC3w
