“Increasing the cost of capital might appear to be good politics to some, but it is bad economic policy for all. Wealth redistribution is not wealth creation and the spending measures introduced today will saddle Canadians with debt without encouraging the strong and sustained economic growth they deserve.” Read and share our CEO Goldy Hyder’s full response to #Budget2024 ⤵️

“For five years the BCC has urged the government to adhere to a meaningful fiscal anchor to ensure Canada remains a credible and stable place for investment. By not keeping its economic promises, the federal government is sending the message that it can’t be trusted to manage the public finances.” Our CEO Goldy Hyder responds to the #FallEconomicStatement and news the federal government has overshot its own fiscal anchor by 50%. #cdnpoli #cdecon

"The very things they're saying are right about what they're doing, they're putting them in jeopardy because of irresponsible fiscal policy." On the day that the Finance Minister has resigned from cabinet, you're not going to want to miss our SVP Robert Asselin in conversation with The Hub Canada's Sean Speer and Rudyard Griffiths on how this current government lost control of public finances and why it matters to Canadians. Sometimes casual conversations by the watercooler can pay off big time. In our latest #SpeakingOfBiz podcast, President of IBM Canada Deb Pimentel shares with host Goldy Hyder the story of her first big break, and it started because she was getting some water when she ran into someone who would ultimately offer her a job at IBM. Last week the BCC team was in Indonesia and the Philippines in conjunction with a Team Canada trade mission led by Minister Mary Ng. These two countries – the most populous in Southeast Asia – are some of the fastest growing economies in the #IndoPacific region. Our President and CEO Goldy Hyder led a business delegation from our member companies, including Sun Life, Manulife, CAE, AtkinsRéalis, Parkland Corporation, Hatch, TELUS, Air Canada, BlackBerry and OpenText. While it is clear to all that Canada has what the region needs – energy, food, infrastructure and technology-- it's important that we remain engaged for the long-term and demonstrate our ability to deliver as a reliable partner. Our meetings in Indonesia with key government leaders, including the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice Minister of Trade, provided the opportunity to exchange views and establish valuable new connections between the Canadian private sector and Indonesian government. We congratulate Canadian and Indonesian officials for concluding the Canada-Indonesian Comprehensive Economic Partnership (CEPA) negotiations and hope to see this important framework enter into force next year. The BCC appreciated the tireless efforts of Ambassador Daniel Ardiles Simanjuntak and the team at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Canada. In the Philippines, we met with various important officials, including Secretary Go, the President’s Economic Advisor, the Secretary of Energy, as well as undersecretaries and senior officials from the Departments of Finance, Energy, Foreign Affairs, and Trade. It was clear to our delegation that Canadian investment is welcome. Canada is well positioned to help the Philippines in areas such as energy, financial services and asset management, technology, infrastructure and transportation. We thank Ambassador MARIA ANDRELITA AUSTRIA for extensive support during our visit.

In an unassuming industrial park in Markham Ontario, Canadian innovators are creating cutting-edge technical solutions that are being used around the world. It was a thrill to tour IBM Canada Software Lab - Toronto with IBM Canada President Deb Pimentel. As a proud Canadian and proud IBMer, she knows first-hand the ingenuity Canadians bring to the global company. I really enjoyed our conversation on the Business Council of Canada's #SpeakingofBiz podcast. From her childhood living above her parents’ grocery store, to her passion for encouraging more women to pursue leadership positions in the tech industry – Deb is an inspiring leader. The more #Canada listens to our international allies the smarter our energy, trade and environmental policies will be. I recently had the honour of discussing energy issues with H.E. Dr. Harry Tseng, the Head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada. As the world's most important manufacturer of semi-conductors, Taiwan's #energysecurity is deeply connected to the world's security. Moreover, being an trade partner to Taiwan on energy, most notably #LNG, also supports energy #affordability for Taiwanese and acheivement of their #environmental goals. I encourage all Canadians to take in his important message.
