#FBF - revisiting this 2023 article published in Glass Magazine / and online at Bigassglass.com - this is the definitive guide to printing on glass, co-written with the talented people at Goldray Glass. In a world of quick-change signage and post-applied vinyls, printing directly to the glass surface affords a long-term, robust solution mitigating the risks of fading, scratching, and wear typically seen on economical print options. If memories of drafty windows come rushing back as the colder months approach, this post is for you. Typically we talk about the efficiency of a window system, often overlooking the conversation about the comfort surrounding a better window system. That makes sense since comfort is a subjective experience and difficult to nail down when discussing glazing. A fantastic tool by PAYETTE (https://lnkd.in/grKDwW3s) helps us to visualize different window U-Values and how they "feel" to the majority of the population through a metric called PPD or “percentage or population dissatisfied." Instead of providing a temperature, this tool shows results regarding how bearable it is to sit in front of a window (not including air leakage). As you can see, the importance of Low-e’s for cooler climates cannot be understated. Not using a low-e results in a rejection of 23.6% in this example, while the inclusion of Low-e reduces rejection to 15%! #Igu #glass #luxuryhome #customwindow #window #energyefficient #windowefficiency #energyefficientwindow #energyefficientglazing #customglass #facade #facadelovers

Passive House – What is it? In short, a building that does not require a traditional heating (or cooling) system. These increasingly specified, ultra-efficient designs have a big factor on the glazing requirement. As with all certifications, however, measuring Passive House efficiency is a little different than how we typically measure thermal efficiency in North America through NRFC. This video explores the nuances of these differences so that when specifying Passive House windows, you can set expectations on what the homeowner will receive. #passivehouse #passivehaus #energyeffiency #energyefficient #windows #luxurywindows #luxuryhome #greenhome #greenbuilding #green #igus #glass #glassfabrication #glazing #facade #facadelovers https://passivehouse.com/

The evolution of the double-glazed window using 4th surface low-e coatings as a standard is all but assured with evolving energy codes. A common barrier to the adoption of 4th surface coatings is the risk of dew/condensation on the inner glass surface. A firm understanding of the cause of room-side condensation, and managing the customer's expectations all but eliminate this risk. Dew or condensation forms when the surface temperature drops below the dew point temperature. 4th surface coatings do such a great job at rejecting heat back INTO the home, that ironically, the interior pane is much cooler than a traditional double-glazed IGUs. This cooler surface may condense if not managed properly. To reduce the risk of condensation interior relative humidity (RH) can’t be willy-nilly. It must stay managed by the homeowner. Here are two different reference ranges you may cite to customers: 21C / 69.8F Interior | 0C / 32C exterior · Low-e 2nd and 4th: Require RH of 41% or less 24C / 75.2F Interior | 0C / 32C exterior · Low-e 2nd and 4th: Require RH of 38% or less **example only - permitter, frame type, frame insulation, wind chill, and temperature variation will affect the required RH.** Thank you to the wonderful Kayla Natividad and the fine people at NSG Group | Pilkington for the amazing research done on this subject AND for the assist! #Igu #glass #luxuryhome #customwindow #window #energyefficient #windowefficiency #energyefficientwindow #energyefficientglazing #customglass #facade #facadelovers

Check out AGNORA's newest article in this month's issue of the National Glass Association (NGA) Window+Door Magazine. https://lnkd.in/gw2xx5n5 Are you interested in window technology for high-altitude IGUs? Though traditional capillary tubes still have their place, they are quickly giving way to pre-equalized IGUs and argon-breathable options. https://lnkd.in/gq9Sgk9V Energy conservation and code compliance are becoming increasingly stringent, meaning sealed IGUs, WITH ARGON, must be used to tip the scales towards conformity. Find out why! https://lnkd.in/gw2xx5n5 A special thank you to Thomas Culp for his contribution (and for keeping us on point) and of course the great team at Window+Door Magazine, Tara Lukasik and Laurie Banyay Cowin! #article #igu #igus #windows #window #luxurywindow #luxurywindows #customhomes #mountainhomes #architecturalglass #glass #glazing #altitude #glassfabrication #glassfactory #knowledge #facade #facadelovers

Flashback Friday: The Microsoft Store installation on 5th Ave NYC. Together with Gensler, this project was the first to use 130" SentryGlas (Trosifol & SentryGlas) in 2015 which expanded the size of the glass enough to eliminate unwanted butt seams. These ultra flat, high-quality laminates scaled up to 120" x 246" at the largest size and the three-ply laminates came to an impressive 1 1/2" thick and weighed in at 3800 lbs. This specialty retail storefront is one for the ages! #microsoft #retail #retailstorefront #glass #glassfacade #curtainwall #customglass #customstore #flagshipstore #5ave #NYC #fabrication #glassfabrication #glassexpert #glazing #glazier #fbf

“Is that giant piece of glass for just one window?” More often than not – NO – it’s not. Let us explain… Raw glass sheets at AGNORA typically fall in the range of 130” x 240” or 126” x 300” and although we have produced full double-glazed window units near that size, it’s usually an exception to the rule. In fact, we precision cut these large sheets of glass into two or three different pieces, using our ERP software to optimize yield and minimize waste and offcuts. It’s because of these huge sheets of glass that AGNORA is geared to large windows starting at widths of 96”+ or 65 sq.ft. For IGUs slighter in size, our sister company West Coast Insulated Glass Products produces windows that allow us to form a whole-home window package! #bigglass #customglass #jumboglass #oversizedglass #glassmanufacturing #glassfabrication #glassfacades #glassrproduction #glazing #glazier #architect #luxuryhome #windows #window #igu

Flashback Friday to this unique and one-of-a-kind project. The DOLCE&GABBANA store on NYC’s famous 5th Ave used a unique "blend" of laminates to achieve its lacy look. Though you may think this is digitally printed, it is in fact, real. Using DOLCE&GABBANA lace fabric sandwiched between layers of Trosifol & SentryGlas, AGNORA was able to achieve a distinct store-in-store experience elevated by the brand's integration with the design and build process. Lastly, the transom was made from three separate pieces of lace that had to be aligned perfectly so all the tiny threads and their patterns were at the same height as the larger panels. #fbf #storedesign #retailstoredesign #retailglass #retailstorefront #dolcegabbana #glassfabrication #glass #glassdesign #customglass #glassarchitecture #architecture #architects
