Field Visit to FEF OSC 2024-2026 Grantees: Botswana Gender Based Violence Prevention & Support Centre (BGBVC) On December 10th, Programme leads from the French Embassy and BOTSWANA COUNCIL OF NGOs continued their field visits to FEF-OSC grantees with a stop in Ghanzi to visit BGBVC’s “Survivors’ Economic Empowerment Initiative”. This project seeks to provide survivors of GBV with tools to achieve economic independence, while fostering environmentally sustainable practices. The visit included: ✅ A tour of the horticultural project led by survivors of GBV, facilitated by BGBVC and the Community Relations Officer of Sandfire, which provides the land and water resources for the project ✅Visit of the BGBVC office in Ghanzi and strategic discussions with the team Through this initiative, survivors gain: 1️⃣ Practical training in horticulture to develop sustainable businesses 2️⃣ Resources to achieve economic empowerment and regain independence 3️⃣ A supportive community fostering resilience and growth With this new chapter, the project will scale up to empower even more beneficiaries, equipping them with the skills to cultivate more efficiently and lead their own businesses. Today, our Programmes Manager, Ms. Amantle Molemoeng, represented BGBVC at the 16 Days of Activism Commemoration hosted by Orange Botswana and German Agency For International Cooperation (GIZ) at the Avani Hotel, Gaborone. The panel discussion, themed “Private Sector Action in Preventing GBV Together,” explored how businesses can take active steps to prevent gender-based violence and build safer communities. During the panel discussion, themed “Private Sector Action in Preventing GBV Together,” she emphasized the high prevalence of GBV and the various forms it takes. The Candlelight Session was a deeply emotional and reflective experience, but most importantly, it fostered unity and commitment to ending GBV. This event formed part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
