You can't tell from this, but the cursor after the last prompt here is red:

bash$ echo $TERM
xterm
bash$ mkdir todotest
bash$ cd todotest
bash$ todo -a test -p 1
Index of new item is 1
todo: warning, created database (.todo) has group or world permissions
bash$ todo
  1.test
bash$

It happens with any of the priority colors.

Note: It only happens when it's on the last line or two of the display, and
causes the text to scroll.

Any characters typed appear normal, and the cursor returns to normal with
the next newline, backspace, or delete. Actually, it appears every
character on the line starts with red text, and is reset to normal when
something is entered on it.

After backspacing, the cursor becomes normal, but after typing back out to
where the cursor was it becomes red again.

Highlighting the last line, "bash$ " and any typed characters are
highlighted normally, with black letters on a white background. The
untyped portion of the line is solid red. (My xterms are white text on a
black background.)

Typing enough characters to wrap around the end of the line also returns
the cursor to normal.

It happens in an xterm with any setting of $TERM I tried (xterm, vt100,
ansi, vt52, dumb, linux, screen), but did not happen within an xterm
running screen, with any of those $TERMs.

It did not happen in gnome-terminal or Eterm.

xterm is 4.3.0-7
