Brazilian M2M MVNO Eseye, eyes Latin America expansion in 2025 The mobile virtual network operator (#MVNO) Eseye, wants to expand from Brazil to other Latin American countries in mid-2025. The #M2M #IoT MVNO has been focused on growing its business in the Brazilian market since 2016 but is now eyeing the expansion into other markets, as explained by Ana Carolina Bussab, general director of the company in Brazil to Mobiletime. “We have constant growth of 9% to 20% per year. So, we want to increase this growth, see what is possible and feasible within the Brazilian reality and then, at a comfortable level, dedicate ourselves with time and technology to expand to Latin America”. Founded in 2007 in the United Kingdom, Eseye offers connectivity services for companies that need connection for M2M and IoT operations with multiple operators. In Brazil, Eseye is an accredited MVNO and partner of the mobile virtual network aggregator (#MVNA) and enabler (#MVNE) Surf Telecom. Its local clients are utilities such as Equatorial, CPFL and Comgás, as well as supply chain, vehicle and cargo tracking companies. In total, the company has 700,000 active devices, but this number can vary up or down, due to the amount of "bait loads" (equipment disguised within the load that is used once and then discarded). With a newly granted license from Brazil’s Central Bank, Vivo can now operate as a 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 (𝐒𝐂𝐃), allowing it to offer financing and 💰credit directly to its customers through its Vivo Pay platform. This move represents a major milestone in Vivo’s efforts to 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 and capture a larger share of the growing fintech market in Brazil 📈. Vivo Money, the company's credit portfolio, grew by 𝟔𝟐.𝟒% 📊, reaching $79.3 million by June 2024. Financial services now account for nearly 𝟓% 𝐨𝐟 𝐕𝐢𝐯𝐨’𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐥. The company’s expansion includes plans to launch a 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 🌐 for its 60 million customers, adding to its 24 million unique users already benefiting from Vivo Pay. The move has been expected since the company received approval in May from Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), to operate as a MVNO. This was the explanation given by Livia Chanes, the bank's CEO in Brazil, when announcing the official launch of NuCel. The MVNO has decided to start with eSIMs first, and roll out physical SIMs later, which could limit the initial potential growth of customers until they start offering physical SIMs as well. https://lnkd.in/gmiJf6Zh Paulo Fonseca, responsible for the MVNO's operations, does not believe this should be a barrier for customers at first, as the bank has tens of millions of consumers with smartphones capable of #eSIM in its base, including account holders who are not high-income, he says. The MVNO has been launched in partnership with the host operator Claro, based on a revenue share model. Paulo Barbosa, the general manager of NuCel, said that the revenue share model will be beneficial for the MVNO partner. "The difficulty with the cost model, is that it requires constant negotiation of the price per gigabyte. "We are aligned in the division of revenue, there is no need for constant renegotiation. Choosing this model is what makes us competitive." However, item 6.3.8 in the contract between Nubank and Claro contains a clause that establishes Claro's #exclusivity as the operator to be used by Nubank. The matter is on the agenda for Anatel’s next board meeting, scheduled for Monday, November 4.

Today, I’m excited to introduce two more speakers: Rute C. Sofia, Industrial IoT Head at fortiss - research institute of the Free State of Bavaria, will discuss “Latest Advancements on the 6G Edge-Cloud Continuum: The #CONASENSE Perspective.” This talk will provide insights into the direction towards a cognitive, flexible 6G Edge-Cloud orchestration. Last Tuesday I had the opportunity to present at the 6G Briefing event in São Paulo a summary of CPQD's vision for the development of the next generation of mobile networks, and how Open RAN will play an essential role in this evolution. With 5G Advanced we are already migrating to a hybrid cloud/edge computing infrastructure specialized for the telecom sector, which will be shared between network functions and advanced applications such as AI at the edge, Immersive Reality, Autonomous Transport Systems, etc. For the 6G infrastructure to emerge as an economically viable solution, that's accessible to the entire population, the increasingly secure sharing of computing capacity, spectrum and other network assets will be a success factor. Finally, the coverage ubiquity will increase in the coming years with the implementation of new satellite/HAPS networks integrated with terrestrial networks, adhering to 3GPP standards. The entry of ISPs into mobile telephony creates new models for MVNO The adoption of the mobile telephone service by Internet Service Providers (#ISP) is also beginning to attract a much wider range of interested parties in Brazil, and along with the growth, new business models are also emerging that aim to attract providers more quickly. This was part of the discussion at the Abrint Congress, a event for ISP's in LATAM held yesterday in Brazil: https://lnkd.in/gdD9XH4z Tip Brazil, is one of the companies that decided to develop a new network and #monetization model to massify the mobile virtual network operators (#MVNO) among ISPs. Currently, the company uses the network infrastructure of several MNOs, including TIM, Datora, and more recently incorporated also the Vivo network. According to Carlos Ratts, head of MVNO and streaming at the company, the chips that sell white label to ISPs, in the 4G LTE technology league, can access the signal of their own #privatenetwork, which allows the provider to offer its customer mobility of up to 14 kilometers outside its original base. For Daniel Fuchs, director of Innovation at the #MVNE Datora, ISPs are beginning to turn more interested to the mobile phone segment, even as a reaction to 5G, in defense of their market. He sees great potential in FWA – a fixed service based on #5G – to be used in large cities, to serve condominiums. "FWA can solve the problem of the last meter, and not the last mile", he envisions. Ligga, which announced at Abrint their new way of exploiting the 5G frequency that it purchased at the Anatel auction, created, together with its partner, a much more complex model, with several alternatives, but which, in the end, means new models for the MVNO. According to Marcelo Siena, head of ISP Telecom, Ligga's partner in the venture , this company was created to not only act as an #MVNA but also as an authorized MVNO (which has more obligations with Anatel), responsible for the interface with the ISP , which will be the accredited MVNO. ¨We can offer more aggressive prices because we eliminate the top layer. Furthermore, we will use the provider's infrastructure to flow traffic locally, which will be cheaper and faster¨, says Siena.
