A few weeks ago I decided to give GenAI a try in helping me adapt a workshop. Here's the context: We started from the amazing Lean Inception devised by 🎯Paulo Caroli. We cloned the Miro template (https://lnkd.in/dYThtRd4) and started to customise it for our needs. The main different is that the product we were defining was more technical, and I wanted the examples to resonate more with what we were doing. My first request was to help me create some personas that would be interested into using the example product (not the product we were defining, I still wanted people to actually define them). My request was quite simple: > I'm facilitating a workshop where we will define personas for a system. I need 3 examples to illustrate the activity. The context is that I need different personas that would be interested in having some system metrics. For each persona, I need a fake name, 3 or 4 items to define their profile, 3 or 4 items for their behaviour and 3 or 4 items listing their needs. The result was quite good. It created a persona called The Data-Driven Executive, another called The IT Operations Manager and another called The Product Manager. I was quite happy that it balanced technical vs product and mixed different levels of seniority on the response. I won't go into details of the items for profile, behaviour, and needs here, but I will say the tool is as lazy as us and generated the minimum I requested (3 of each). The other activity I wanted help generating examples was the features brainstorming (that we renamed to metrics brainstorming for our case). For this, I had to share what app it should based its responses, and again, with a very simple request, it generated a good comprehensive list of metrics that I could use as example for the activity. The request was the following: > Imagine an app for football players that help them find and organise matches against each other. Give me a list of 15 metrics that the company that builds and maintains it would be interested into having. Please list both business and technical metrics. By using GenAI for these activities, I was able to generate examples that were more tailored to the workshop we were running without spending too much time rethinking them. I'll definitely keep it in my tool belt for next opportunities.

I just completed reading a book by Alberto Silveira called "Building and Managing High Performance Distributed Teams." I must say this book is really awesome!!! Alberto dives deep into the culture and structure and clear distinction of what are Distributed Teams. He explains what makes them different from just remote work, and uses analogies from his love for Sailing to make the book smooth and very interesting. What is clear to me after reading the book is that organizations that mandate RTO policies have failed to build a coherent culture of Distributed Teams!!! Here are just some thought provoking quotes from his book: "Trust became the key differentiator between managers who succeeded during COVID lockdown and those who didn't." "The way Distributed Teams are managed - is the way they will perform!" "When people are there for a purpose, with their mind and soul, performance finds a place to grow!" "Enterprise Organizations often have no idea how much traditional organizational silos cost and how processed and bureaucracy actually  impact their ability to maneuver and quickly adapt to the fast-changing market conditions causing further misalignment with the original North Star." "The concept of distributed teams is a philosophy - an approach defined by a people-first, trust heavy mindset that applies even when a team is physically dispersed, working from home, or in satellite offices across the country." "Remote only works well when everyone is remote. When everyone is remote, they become distributed." "You cannot recreate the human sense of togetherness and presence from a remote location if the rest of the meeting attendees are together in a central office, even with all the best tools and gear. This brings social inequity of remoteness." "Central to distributed team model is the need to treat all people as part of the team." "Its not the North Star's brightness that makes it a success, but its consistency." "Empowerment is the ultimate demonstration of trust" "When managers cannot delegate, they demonstrate distrust... when they micromanage, they demonstrate distrust AND simultaneously prevent self from being trusted!" Definition of a leader is "someone whom I want to follow and someone who I choose to follow!" "Measures and Metrics are only truly effective when they work in consort with effective team leadership - a human factor." "When leaders stop focusing on outcomes through trust and delegation, they tend to revert to more of a top-down command and control mindset where micromanagement becomes the norm, which is not the way to build and run a team or to inspire high performance" Definitely recommend!!! I really like Maxi Ferreira's recent article on complexity as the "Hopeless Boss Battle" of modern-day Software. In short: "Fighting complexity is a hopeless battle because any piece of useful software comes with a certain amount of essential complexity attached to it, which is the complexity of the problems it solves and the domain it lives in. This type of complexity is the entire reason the software exists in the first place, so there is really no way around it."

Language, not just logic, is the key to good design. People focus too much on: • Applying patterns without understanding • Trying to model every business detail • Overcomplicating simple solutions But successful DDD practitioners: • Engage domain experts to understand core concepts • Model only what is necessary for the business • Use a shared language that aligns with real-world use DDD is about: • Building aligned communication • Building focused models • Building solutions that evolve with the business Remember: Collaboration with domain experts drives clarity.
