What Youll DoSalem Academy Charter School seeks an excellent math teacher for our High School Pre-AP Algebra II, Precalculus, and Computer Science classes.
We are looking for a teacher committed to reaching all students, raising achievement through a rigorous and relevant curriculum, and supporting a school culture of excellence and joyful learning.
The ideal candidate has experience with standards-based grading and is committed to raising student achievement through an integration of rigorous college preparatory classes with service to the community.
All teachers at Salem Academy are responsible for teaching Service-Learning.
The Pre-AP Algebra II, PreCalculus, and Computer Science Teacher at SACS will be responsible for the following in addition to other duties as assigned by their principal: Responsibilities: Curriculum Development: Implement a comprehensive and challenging mathematics curriculum aligned with state and national standards for pre-AP geometry, precalculus, and computer science courses.
Ensure that curricular materials are culturally relevant and reflective the diverse population of our students.
Classroom Instruction: Deliver effective and engaging mathematics instruction to high school students, differentiating for utilizing various teaching methods and resources to meet the diverse needs of learners, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
Utilize culturally responsive and sustaining teaching practices.
Teach four classes per day.
Assessment and Feedback: Develop and administer assessments to evaluate students' understanding and progress.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to guide students toward improvement.
Analyze student data and monitor student progress through standards-based assessments.
Input academic and behavioral data on the school data management system.
Classroom Management: Implement our Safe and Supportive practices and procedures to establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
Build and maintain positive relationships with students.
Input behavioral data on the school data management system.
Individualized Support: Provide differentiation additional assistance and support to students who may require extra help, including those with varying learning abilities and styles.
Implement accommodations and modifications in IEPs, implement 504 plans, and use sheltered English immersion techniques to support multilingual learners.
Family Communication: Maintain open and transparent two-way, culturally responsive communication with parents regarding students' academic and social progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
Participate in Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences three times per year.
Attend IEP meetings as needed.
Professional Development: Stay current with developments in mathematics education, participate in professional development opportunities, and contribute to the overall improvement of the school community by participating in weekly professional development (IDP) sessions.
Positive School Culture: Actively participate in and/or supervise school culture activities such as community meetings, pep rallies, and clubs during Culture Block.
Advise a Connections block (homeroom) weekly.
Supporting the schoolwide culture through a weekly schedule of duties (may include study hall, lunch duty, break duty, arrival/dismissal, etc.
).
Participate in weekly grade-level team meetings.
You bring people together and build community.
You recognize the assets and community cultural wealth of all students, families, and staff.
You are caring, committed, and collaborative with colleagues and families.
QualificationsBelief in the mission and vision of the schoolMasters degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related fieldPossession of Massachusetts Teacher Certification for high school mathematics or out-of-state equivalentPossession of a Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher Endorsement.
Achieve a passing score on the following MTEL exams: Mathematics subject matter test and Communication and Literacy Skills testAt least 5 years of experience teaching math at the high school levelDemonstrated subject matter competence and understanding of current pedagogical practices in mathematics educationDemonstrated proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, C++, or others commonly used in high school curricula.
Proven ability to foster effective inclusion practices and a safe, positive, and respectful class and school cultureRelentless commitment to raising the academic achievement of all studentsProven track record of achieving academic success with a diverse student bodyExcitement about integrating academics with service workEagerness to be part of creating an innovative and rigorous middle and high school programCommitment to ongoing professional development and growth.
