Dual Language Literacy Coach

POSITION SUMMARY:
To provide dual language and literacy pedagogical support to staff in elementary literacy and dual language programming in order to deliver Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the opportunity gap among subgroups within the schools.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in Elementary (1-5) and SEI Endorsement are required.
All Literacy Coaches must take the Reading MTEL and provide the district with a passing score or Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in Reading.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: At least a Bachelor’s Degree in the area of major study.
Experience in the field of dual language education is preferred.

Work with dual language classroom teachers to improve teaching and learning through classroom demonstrations, co-teaching, lesson study, and mentoring.
Engage teachers, as the school data team co-facilitator and literacy/dual language coach, in the analysis of data from a variety of sources to improve instruction.
Assist teachers as they evaluate students’ strengths and weaknesses and identify appropriate classroom intervention strategies and techniques.
Assist in the development of the district/school professional development programs, including delivering and facilitating literacy/dual language workshops and programs as well as job-embedded activities.
Assist in ordering language arts and literacy materials for teacher and student use.
Work collaboratively and participate in district-wide discussions with the K-8 ELA team and Office of Multilingual Education, Elementary Literacy Coaches, ELD Coaches, Middle School ELA Department Heads, and the Office of Teaching and Learning about ELA teaching and learning.
Is well versed in dual language philosophy.
Oversee and support the maintenance of a school ‘literacy center’ with bilingual texts and resources leveled texts.
Participate in the review and revision of the district’s ELA curriculum and the district’s language allocation plan.
Collaborate with the Office of Teaching and Learning and Office of Multilingual Education in streamlining dual-language k-5 programming at the school-based level.
Support teachers in the implementation and use of bilingual resources and tools.
Oversee that the district’s curriculum scope and sequence is being implemented effectively and supporting teachers with the language allocation model.
Participate in building-based and district-level academic meetings.
Assist in ordering bilingual materials and programs for teacher and student use.
Assist in the planning and facilitation of professional development opportunities for dual language teachers.
Oversee dual-language school-based subcommittees.
Oversee dual-language curriculum review and revisions in collaboration with the Office of Multilingual Education and Office of Teaching and Learning as well as school administrators.
Communicate consistently and effectively with the Office of Multilingual Education, Office of Teaching and Learning, and school-based administrators and coaches Collaborate effectively with the other school-based academic coaches and school administrators.
Be an active participant in the school’s Instructional Leadership team.
Perform additional responsibilities as deemed appropriate by school and district supervisors.
