Founders journey Episode 2 - New Directions Changing product and strategy directions based on feedback from our target group and users is a core element of all startups. At Vilosia, we're no exception. One crucial insight we gained was the importance of continuously learning from users and engaging with our target audience. This feedback led us to an exciting new product direction. Our initial 3D approach for building workflows was unique and created significant interest. Creating a 3D world of workflows is not only innovative but also fun and effective for NoCoders. However, feedback from consultants and IT service companies highlighted a core challenge: 50 to 80% of their projects involve software migration. This insight steered us towards a new opportunity. Understanding dependencies, database queries and API calls in legacy systems is often time-consuming and costly. This is where Vilosia steps in. We're making the starting point of software migration as seamless as possible. Transitioning our focus from greenfield projects to software migration allows us to address a pressing industry need. In the upcoming posts, we'll dive deeper into software migration, drawing from our experiences and those of our customers and network. In an online interaction with Cosmin Raileanu the other days, he raised a topic that I like a lot and, also, in high trend, about the importance of AI for entrepreneurs. I leave the conclusions below👇 - AI (and technology, in general) is actually a tool that entrepreneurs can use to accelerate their work and their development to align with the new standards. Imagine a man without a mobile phone and no access to the Internet. It can certainly survive, but it's gonna be a struggle and might experience an exponentially harder time than someone that has all of that. I believe that AI will be what the phone and the computer have come to represent for each of us, but to the power of 1000. 🚀 - It is essential to remain open to integrating Tech & AI into our life and business, so that we can get rid of the repetitive workload and really deal with things that are relevant and that honor our power and potential as Human beings. 💫 - In 3-5 years, the world we live in today will look like the stone age compared to the level of efficiency and productivity we will have then with AI. 🔝 - If you farm with a hoe, you produce enough food to survive, and past generations and our grandparents proved it. If you use modern tractors and professional equipment, you cultivate hundreds of hectares and feed several villages. 🚜 With or without AI: Survival or performance?📈 What’s It Gonna Be?!? 🤔 P.S. How Olearis Helped Parlor App Increase Revenue by 3X in Six Months Parlor is a social app that enables people to make random calls, finding the right person to talk to instantly. It might seem like a phenomenon nowadays, as it’s commonly believed that people are not willing to talk anymore. However, it appears we all underestimate social hunger, especially in the Arabic world! Parlor has been on the market for years, amassing 7 million downloads and achieving 2.5 million sessions per month. Originally, Parlor’s monetization model was based on advertising. It was assumed that people would prefer to watch ads rather than pay. But as time passed, the app became outdated, and together with Parlor founder Joel Schwartz, we bet that better UX and an ad-free experience would increase user engagement. Following YouTube's example, we offered an ad-free subscription that also included additional features, such as advanced search filters. Two months after its launch, revenue doubled! Then we undertook a full app redesign and significantly improved the UX. This launch was another huge success, leading to a x2 decrease in the number of user actions and a x2 increase in time spent in the app. In other words, when the UX became clearer, people stopped struggling with the interface and started spending more time actually using the app! And voilà! Revenue tripled with no investment in marketing! This is a great example of how a product with good potential can benefit from the right product solutions and better UX.

Today marks the day I’ve decided to actively manage my business account on LinkedIn. Over the past 10 years, I’ve climbed the ranks from an affiliate manager to a CBDO, working in both small startups and large gambling companies. During this time, I’ve managed to increase company profits multiple times over and develop brands with a 360-degree approach. Recently, after attending the #IGBLive conference, I heard numerous inspiring stories about how companies have grown and evolved from scratch, reorganized, overcome bankruptcy, and returned to the market with new projects after setbacks. Next at #LeadDevBerlin we have Lyubomira Dimitrova from Onfido about industrialising AI and ML Ops. They had: - custom built tool - taking pride in internally developed tech - highly specialised needs - sensitive data Challenges: - increasing data volume - changing requirements - no dedicated team - not a core competency / capability Back in 2022 there were 100+ data labelling tools. They got very excited. But how to choose? - objectives (discover requirements, clarify use cases & specific applications to support, map stakeholders as well as users, define success metrics & KPIs) - security & compliance (PII data so extremely important! Impose non-negotiable hard conatraints) - process (actively design how processes will need to change — eg they had to explicitly define roles & responsibilities) - technology (what type of data you need to label, import, export, etc) - strategy (strong preference for better established companies in certain geographies bcs had to disclose to customers 3rd party software providers and they had opinions) - people Methods: - workshops - user interviews - process mapping & redesign - stakeholder engagement - proofs of concept - technical design & architecture Finally got to two options (both of which blew the budget!)

In the startup world, everything is moving fast, and you can hardly finish a task before something else requires immediate attention. In this dynamic environment, user feedback is more than just valuable; it is essential. Our recent experience at Candleweb perfectly illustrates this point. Just yesterday, I had a two-hour conversation with one of our users who is also my medical doctor. When I saw his call, I thought it had to do with my health or something of the sort, but instead, we delved into a long conversation about our company’s product, CandleAI. He shared his thoughts on the beneficial features, but more importantly, he pointed out several areas where he believed the user experience could be significantly improved. And what was particularly striking about our conversation was that 95% of his suggestions were already in our development pipeline. As a team of customers ourselves, we had unknowingly identified many of the same pain points as other customers and were actively working on solutions. This validation from an external customer reaffirmed our direction and highlighted the importance of continuous user engagement. Michael Seibel always emphasises that it pays if the founding team of a company are customers themselves. This advice has resonated with us deeply, and our recent experience has finally made it crystal clear. When you live the problem you are trying to solve, you gain an unparalleled perspective that guides your product development in the most authentic and user-centric way. As a startup, user feedback is essential, it is the compass that guides the way. Let's embrace it, learn from it, and continuously strive to make our solutions better for everyone.

"What you've done in 3 months is outstanding!" Yesterday was the day. After just three months of conception, design, and development, we handed over the MVP of a new multi-tenant SaaS platform to our client. The project is still in stealth mode, so I can't link to the platform. I think we can share more info in a couple of weeks, maybe even a few technical details or challenges we've tackled. We not only delivered on time, we also exceeded expectations! The client has experience with software development teams, but it was the first time for them to experience the power of #EventModeling + #ShapeUp combined in our unique #SDVBCycle (Storm-Design-Validate-Build) on prooph board. I expected and promised a good result. I trust our team and the way we work. But this result exceeded my expectations as well. prooph board got a lot of improophments and new features for prototyping as well as a seamless switch from concept validation to building the actual software. This unlocked a lot of additional time that we've invested into #UX design and high-class front-end customizing. Users will directly benefit from a well-thought-out task-based UI that keeps them informed at all times and cuts complex work into manageable chunks. We didn't organize our work in sprints nor did we show individual features every two weeks. After a completeness check with the help of a prototype in #CodyPlay, we implemented the entire MVP in one go (one cycle). No ticket system, no status checks with the client, and no micro-management. Such an approach only works with trust. Event Modeling helped us a lot in the first weeks to build this trust with the new client. Thank you again Adam Dymitruk for the EM workshop earlier the year. Insights from this workshop went directly into our development process and unlocked extra time for things that really matter. I love this way of working. It creates a great spirit in the team and the results speak for themselves. Once, a client wanted to build a large-scale customer loyalty app involving businesses from various industries. However, the execution failed, and the app didn’t launch due to constant changes in the project’s scope. Despite the failure, this experience taught me valuable lessons: ➤ Always define a clear project scope. ➤ Maintain constant communication with the client. ➤ Avoid scope creep. ➤ Stick to realistic timelines. ➤ Ensure proper testing before expanding features. In life, there is no clear start and end; it’s a continuous journey. There’s always a road that will challenge you, make you fail, and help you learn, ultimately leading to growth and success. Have you ever faced a failed app launch? If so, what lessons did you learn? As Albert Einstein said, "Failure is success in progress." Remember how Walt Disney, the famous filmmaker, faced failure early in his career? Yet, his persistence led to success. Similarly, being an entrepreneur doesn’t mean we succeed in everything.
