Quick engineering salary comparison based on the #DEVBG stats from 2023 and 2024 in the Bulgarian IT industry. Dev.bg publish yearly a summary of the Bulgarian IT engineering salaries based on the job openings offers on their platform. https://lnkd.in/dNU5MD8D (2023 stats) https://lnkd.in/dX_dxvP7 (2024 stats) Based on the population data (let's assume it's a proper representation of the real world) we can determine the following: 1. PHP should be dead but it isn't (unfortunately) as it's one of the two categories with growing salaries in all job positions and ranges. 2. The second is the full stack development with a minimum drop of 65 levas in the first MID range(2-5 years) 3. All ranges except the Senior level(5+ years of experience) have a drop in salary compared to 2023 but for some seem negligible compared to the notion in the industry that "it's going down and AI will take over the world" :) 4. We can see that seniority still counts and there is now a shift towards growth of salaries of more senior people compared to others as the market tries to regulate. 5. There is still a lot of green for a "dying" and "shrinking" industry. People that pretend to be someone they’re not Unfortunately I’m not talking about Halloween - although it’s been fun and all. 👻 I’m talking about the rising stream of fake job applicants that’s hit the Romanian IT job market. Although I’m sure it’s not a new phenomenon, I’ve noticed it really picked up in the last few months. Clean, very beautifully redacted CV.  Romanian name.  Extensive work experience, real companies as former employers.  Romanian phone number and email address.  Graduate at a well known and well ranked university in Romania. No red flags at first glance. Unless you know about this practice and start to see the cracks. And this is where I come in with this post that’s supposed to serve as a PSA for fellow recruiters. Hoping it will save you some time, energy and it will prevent you from getting your hopes up for someone that’s not even real. Or experience even worse consequences down the line if that person passes through initial screenings. There are many reasons speculated as to why people do this - getting their foot in the door although they don’t meet certain requirements, North Korean hackers are involved, they want to get access to sensitive data, they want to get the job to further outsource it, it’s part of a broader scam etc.  The true reason escapes me and it’s not even the point. The point is to be careful and be thorough. There are cracks in their persona and although small they add up eventually.   Communicate in writing but also on the phone (which is particularly important).  Check their social media presence or other digital platforms (like freelancing sites). Try to find a photo of them and reverse image search.  Do a background check as much as possible.  Be on the lookout for anything that seems out of place. Sometimes the trick is obvious.  But sometimes it’s not. It took me way too much at first to figure out I was being made a fool.  So I hope this helps you be more cautious and aware.
