Motion is considered the most relevant cause of artefacts in breast MRI leading to degraded image quality or rendering studies non-diagnostic. The important reason for patient motion is contrast administration. Contrast administration may lead to discomfort, feeling of tingling and warmth, and pain in the arm contrast was administered to. CardioSignal’s CEO, co-founder, and cardiologist Juuso Blomster just presented data at the European Society of Cardiology annual meeting 2024 in London on atrial fibrillation detection reliability among people suspected of various heart conditions. High detection accuracy for atrial fibrillation detection was established among a diverse group of patients suspected of arrhythmias, heart failure and coronary artery disease. Detection reliability is key when designing remote care initiatives in larger populations. “We need to prepare ourselves for the future where high-risk individuals are regularly screened in high volume for heart diseases such as atrial fibrillation or heart failure. This is a necessity if we are to address the growing burden of heart disease with the available healthcare resources”, Dr. Blomster says. MedRes Kft. is advancing the field of minimally invasive surgery by developing a system that integrates onboard cameras with tracking systems to improve precision and safety. This approach allows for the creation of 3D models of the patient’s anatomy during the procedure, offering a more up-to-date representation than preoperative CT scans. Videos of the surgical area are captured and processed to segment wall contacts and reduce noise using several image processing methods such as filtering, masking, and contour detection. Simulatenously, tracking devices provide precise coordinates of the catheter and anatomical features. Surface reconstruction techniques are then used to integrate the processed images with tracking data to construct a 3D model of the anatomy. They are used in various medical applications, security, non-destructive testing, space research, etc. In this talk, Professor Roman Grill reports on the achievements and knowledge he and his colleagues have gathered during more than 30 years of CdTe research at the Institute of Physics, Charles University. Basic principles of operation of radiation detectors are presented and the required material properties are defined to meet strict criteria set for high-quality detectors. The entire production line is commented on, starting with the growth of single crystals followed by after-growth annealing, material characterization, detector manufacture, and testing. Theoretical concepts describing all processes will be outlined. Throughout the talk, Roman Grill will emphasize problems unsolved so far that critically limit the production yield and cause the high price of detectors. Particularly, the talk encompasses the following topics: CdTe phase diagram, point defect engineering and self-compensation, chemical diffusion, contactless resistivity mapping, bias- and light-induced space charge formation and sensor polarization, transient current technique, and specific contact designs in sensors.

We recently collaborated with the enhance.pet team from the Medical University of Vienna Medizinische Universität Wien ⚕ to enhance their CT whole-body segmentation 🩻. This was in two phases: - Evaluate the performance bottlenecks in the segmentation pipeline. - Integrate the MONAI workflow with nnUNet. Not only it is faster, allows for gpu integration, but it also helps on code clarity and maintainability. In parallel, we also improved their registration with ITK.
