Getting closer to taking humans as a model for humans is therapeutic target identification, the studio will act as a start-up factory leveraging the most advanced machine learning innovations on human multiomics big data. With a focus on rare diseases, and more common diseases related to them through gene regulatory networks, QBVS will work hand in hand with Louvain4Rare coordinated by Prof Olivier Devuyst and TRAIL - Trusted AI Labs co-founded by Prof Benoit Macq. 💡Insights from the bio.be Annual Event!  This afternoon, I attended the Bio.Be Annual Event, which focused on next-gen vaccines and our local footprint and position in the value chain. 👉 Here are my key takeaways: 1️⃣ 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐠𝐢𝐮𝐦’𝐬 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩: Belgium ranks first globally in vaccine exports, even after the pandemic! 2️⃣ 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬: To continue facilitating clinical studies for vaccine development, we need more volunteers, especially to test prophylactic vaccines. 3️⃣ 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬: During crises or pandemics, we need to act 10x faster... and with 10x higher volumes. Yesterday, I attended this insightful event to discuss the burden of rare diseases. It's clear that their impact is profound, often overshadowing more common illnesses due to their complexity and the unique challenges they present to people. One of the most significant takeaways for me is the need for unity in creating an EU regulatory environment that not only encourages research but also accelerates approvals. Countries must collaborate to harmonize Health Technology Assessments (HTA) across Europe, ensuring fair access to treatment and cure. There is definitely a lot of work ahead of us, but this kind of conversation is exactly what we need to make change happen. #rarediseases #lifescience

Last Thusday, I attended the Voka Health Community congress . The focus was on how #technology can impact #healthcare . Europe while diverse in many respects has some common challenges – managing stretched #healthcare budgets being one of them. With an ageing population, that challenge is not one that is likely to disappear soon and tools that many governments in Europe use like mandatory rebates and claw-backs to lower the expenditure on medicines are “blunt force” instruments that act against the incentives needed to sustain innovation and improve societal health. As Sir Winston Churchill famously said “Healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have”, and at a time when the world at large needs the strength of human ingenuity to propel us forwards and beyond our current crises, not investing in health is not an choice we can afford to make. From a Swedish perspective, while #Sweden has a top-class Heath Technology Assessment system, patients here can only access less than half of newly approved medicines in Europe – that cannot be acceptable for such an advanced nation. - The bodies responsible for reimbursing and recommending new medicines, TLV and the NT council, operate a dual system, with different rules for making medicines available to patients depending on the route of administration - There are differences both in funding and time to access, and in value assessment, including the treatment of evidence and price negotiation This 20-year-old system is not harmonized. It is not fit for purpose and we need to evolve it to meet the needs of patients today as well as the patients of tomorrow. Reforms are needed in how our reimbursement system operates. Bristol Myers Squibb is committed to contributing to solutions for sustainable healthcare innovation and we believe that: - There should be a national body for pricing negotiations between companies, regions and TLV. Last week I attended a fantastic Pharma Brand Planning course in Brussels led by Edouard Demeire. The course covered brand planning from insights to strategy to tactics, emphasising customer understanding for differentiated positioning and superior value delivery. For those interested, below are some of the key learnings I took away from the course! ✅ A high-quality brand plan should demonstrate patient centricity by comprehensively mapping the patient flow, quantifying patient pools, identifying adoption of the product and competitors, and uncovering key insights from the patient experience journey. ✅ Market segmentation criteria for patients, HCPs and other stakeholders should be clearly differentiating. Priority segments should be selected and addressed with differentiated tactics that meet their specific needs and pain points. ✅ Brand positioning should be based on customer perceptions of competitors and chosen to be important, unique and sustainable. Stakeholder-specific value propositions should align with the overall brand positioning. ✅ Customer-centric tactical plans identify stakeholders and desired behaviors to address CSFs. Tactics should specifically target behavioral objectives and segment-specific beliefs or pain points rather than broad objectives. ✅ Critical success factors (CSFs) should focus on a few key insights. CSFs should align with the situation analysis, brand strategy, and enable achieving the brand's goals. ✅ Performance management involves assessing tactic impact and cost, prioritising high-impact activities, and defining leading indicator KPIs/OKRs to track progress continuously. ✅ Apply design thinking to identify stakeholder pain points and improve delivered customer value through product benefits, non-product benefits and reduced costs. ✅ In summary, the overall brand planning process spans market insights, strategy and tactics.
