What, if we could collaborate with our own AI alter ego? 🤯 The Dutch techno DJ Reinier Zonneveld did exactly this. He played a DJ set together with his own “AI clone” (called R²). The R² AI model has been trained with audio and video data of the DJs productions and live performances. Based on this training, the AI clone can generate new music on the fly, resembling in the musical style of the artist. 🤖 In a dedicated festival, Reinier played a collaborative (back to back) dj set with his AI clone. The world’s first DJ performance of a human DJ and an AI DJ/musician. 🔊 Sounds fascinating, right? Indeed, and what’s fascinating here, is not just limited to music: At first, it shows a completely new way of how to use AI within a creative process. Having an AI based model of one-self, as a musician, is like having an own personalized instrument. It can generate new sounds and inspire new ideas, while keeping the typical musical style of the artist. It could eventually also enable others to collaborate with the AI alter ego. Similar to the concept of cloning and officially licensing the voices of singers or actors for creative and commercial purposes. Imagine such an example this for other domains, beyond music: like product development, design or education - where AI alter egos could become our collaborators, spark new ideas or provide our expertise to others. It will allow completely new kinds of collaborations and workflows.  🤝 2nd fascinating aspect: The R² AI alter ego became part of a live DJ performance. This marks new level of collaboration between a human and an AI system. Playing a DJ set is a complex interaction, especially when 2 DJs play together: It involves factors like real-time collaboration, ad-hoc behavior (the AI must adapt to the human actions and the other way around), lightning effects (also real-time), and, not least, the interaction with the audience - which influences the artist and his/her performance. This allows further new forms of live entertainment or more generally live collaborations (ever wanted to show your guitar skills as a new member of the Rolling Stones?). 🎸   Beyond music, such forms of real-time collaboration will become potentially very useful, as they enable situational interactions between humans an AI based system: Imagine workshops or medical contexts (involving AI-based domain experts), or sports (ever wanted to do a training session with your favorite football or tennis player?). 🎾 And, of course, being a #DJ myself, it would be great playing back to back DJ sets with (AI-)Reinier and some more of my favorite DJs ... 🎉   PS. Creatie , a quick question to you ! Are you yet to integrate Local Variables feature in Creatie. I didn't find it anywhere in design tool, not even on your documentation. I designing few client projects in Creatie while testing your tool. Its one of the big feature that we use in our client's designs works in Amoeba Labs. If we are to ‘change the way we change’, one might argue that includes going beyond design thinking. There is also a difference between human centred & customer centred which service design differentiates between. A vertical-led change is basically ur blueprint mindset for all humans involved in said service operations. It also merges systems think w design think in an important & undervalued way. Business has a deeply inherited bias towards reductionism, which focusses on isolation of the parts in order to find meaning. Systems theory adds the perspective of relational value exchange between the dePARTments, that integrates the CX perspective in context w the EX (it’s human centred value chain⛓️‍💥) as a virtuous synergy of service. Without this union, ur ch ch ch ch changes potential is limited. If the change mindsets assume the business model & operating model are still fit for purpose, then there’s no cultural sovereignty beyond optimisation. But if the goal or North Star can recognise the wide boundary setting provided thru ‘futures & foresight’ thinking, then you’re likely to create new urgencies for change & more impactful design thinking. This formula is needed as the complexity goes up ⬆️

I made a mistake… I used to talk about UX and UI without ever naming them. Why? Because here in Belgium (and beyond), UX and UI are still a big mystery for a lot of people. There's a mountain of misconceptions: - “UX/UI is just about aesthetics.” 🤦‍♀️ - “It's a nice-to-have” 🤦‍♀️ - “We'll think about it after development” 🤦‍♀️ - “It is too expensive for small businesses.” 🤦‍♀️ - “UX/UI is all about empathy.” 🤦‍♀️ - And my favorite (read: most frustrating): “UX and UI? It’s the same thing, right?” 🥲 So, I thought: If people don’t understand what UX/UI really are, maybe I should just avoid the terms altogether. I even removed them from my pitch decks, thinking I’d focus on explaining the impact instead. But after some good (and tough-love) conversations, I realized something important: I chose the wrong battle. From now on, I’m naming it loud and clear: User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI). Two different things. Two game-changing disciplines. And I’m making it my mission to help entrepreneurs (and anyone working on digital products) understand them better. Not just designers, not just tech people, but anyone who’s creating something for real users. 👌

It’s Page 2 of #DearDesigner 👏 Let’s talk about the ever-popular concept of #DesignThinking! Dear Designer, Design thinking is not just a design principle but a mindset — and a pretty universal one at that. As Arne Van Oosterom puts it, “Design thinking is a mindset,” a way of seeing and solving problems which has been embraced by several industries, from engineering to aeronautics, and medicine. Design thinking is both an art and a science and studies show that shockingly, design thinking-the act, has been around for about a century 😵 even though we just came about the name, over a couple of decades ago. It reminds me of a story I read a while ago that captures the essence of design thinking. It was about a truck wedged under a bridge, causing a traffic nightmare. First responders, engineers, firefighters, you name it — everyone showed up, each with a complex solution to get that truck out, such as chipping away the truck in parts, or breaking a part of the bridge, among others. Hours went by, and they weren’t getting anywhere. And there came this young boy, passing. He stared, observed the whole situation — looked at the bridge, the road, the truck and shouted, “Why not just deflate the truck’s tires and tow it out?” 😱 Simple right? But why was it that no one thought about it until then? The answer was right there all along, and it didn’t really require thinking out of the box. That brings me to the definition of Design Thinking I came across just a couple of days ago and I really loved it. As Clint Runge put it, “Design thinking is not about thinking outside the box, but on its edge, its corner, its flap, and under its barcode.” 😄 . The most obvious solutions are the ones hardest to come by because of the self-imposed constraints we work within, or the urge to “think big,” or “outside the box” 🙄 as we are often encouraged to, which more often than not, lead us way off-track 🤦‍♀️ . So, Dear Designer, I challenge you: as you go through your day, look for the design stories around you. Say to yourself “that’s an example of great design” or “that’s a really bad design” and have fun 🤸‍♀️ exploring the “why”. Found this helpful? Using AI in a branding... Like I have mentioned in my previous post, I believe it is possible for designers and AI to work together and create new opportunities. Below you can see an example of that, Hero is a non-alcoholic protein beer. A concept that is not yet explored much in Belgium. We love drinking a beer and enjoying ourselves with friends, but we are also very conscious of our health. Hero is made for those people, the ones that want to enjoy but still keep their body and health in mind. That is why I chose to work with strong and powerful Greek statues made with AI, they portray the feeling of determination and power. TikTok most used app per day among Flemish youth It is for the first time that the target audience spends more time on this social media app than on all Meta apps combined, according to research by Imec (2023). The other apps are mainly used for "snacking," or short-term use. Flemish youth spend an average of 80 minutes per day on TikTok. TikTok is highly popular among Flemish youth; 63 percent of users are between 18 and 24 years old, followed by 30 percent of users between 25 and 34 years old. We scanned 260.000 European websites and we can tell you ... it's not looking good. If we want people to fully trust a digital society, we need to make sure that our digital products and services are accessible and trustworthy. Within the Belgian market a lot of good things are happening with initiatives from Mediawijs, DigitAll, Inter.vlaanderen ... also colleagues from Novation, In The Pocket, Statik, iO, Wieni ... and many more are actively pushing awareness and implementing solutions for an inclusive society 💪 But we have to collectively do more in order to move the needle. Congrats to Luisterrust: 500+ active users in the first few weeks is quite an achievement! So why is Luisterrust successful? I believe that the success of a product all depends on the quality of entrepreneurship. Wouter Manders conducts his business with a focus on design.
