🎄 End of year is reflecting time, and be humble on what we got: Reflecting on the past six months, I am incredibly proud of the progress and achievements our EY Belgium Careers Supply Chain Team & Operations teams has achieved within the procurement domain. 🙌 Personally - Working closely with four different clients across various industries, delivering procurement transformation projects, and helping clients becoming more efficient, resilient & sustainable. Key takeaway: it's all about the people - work closely, connect, communicate. Bringing expertise is expected, but connecting is adding value! During the DFS 2024, we were delighted to share our experience around DORA and the adaptation to new supply chain expectations. Very insightful testimonial from Jorien Decroos and Dorian Pacquet from Approach, but also Nicolas Rigo to bring a financial entity’s perspective. Our key take-aways are: • DORA is not just an IT project. It’s a cross-functional regulatory framework that impacts and reinforces the entire organization, beyond just IT. • Businesses meet key challenges and difficulties that they need to overcome to become DORA-compliant. 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬! Since 2021, we have run many webinars of our very own Supply Chain Design Game, where we give participants the challenge to design an efficient European distribution network. The game explores the trade-offs of network design: many local warehouses reduce outbound cost and service penalties, but have higher inbound and inventory costs; low cost manufacturing is great but what if it's far away from your customer base  ... An optimal balance must be found! After 3.5 years of doing this, it's time for some 𝐣𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 🤓 • We have seen it all with solutions ranging from 1 huge European warehouse to 13 small country warehouses. Hint: both have high costs! • The natural tendency of players is to start with a lower number of warehouses (~5), and then drastically increase it (~10) when they realize the importance of service penalties. • Players learn fast. On average, there is a 40% reduction in cost between the first and last try! • The best network ever submitted costs ~5% more than the "optimal" network calculated by a mathematical network optimization model.
