Last week was E-commerce Manager training week at MakesYouLocal 👨‍🏫 One of the "lessons" was on best practices in e-commerce. This discussion was rooted in customer service – the only real two-way communication between webshops and customers, and the best place to get feedback from your customers, allowing you to do better as a webshop! 🔈 We talked about how webshops can proactively answer some of the most frequently asked questions in e-commerce using technology... 🔙 "I'd like to return [or exchange] [or file a complaint]!" Don't force customers to use a printer! If you've sold anything on Vinted recently, you'll know how nice of an experience the shipping aspect is. A fully digital approach with QR codes and return portals makes it all much easier for everyone involved. The customer has en easier time, and the business has the opportunity to convert a return or complaint to an exchange or a gift card refund if they use some of the available software for this purpose (Ingrid, Claimlane, Returnless for instance 👀) For the webshop, such setups also allow you to have much better data on return reasons or product damages, setting you up for negotiations with carriers, production facilities, or suppliers. 🤔 "Which product should I get?" Whether it's sizing or literally what product to get, helping the customer out does a few things. They become more comfortable in their purchase, they'll likely order one size instead of multiple, they are less likely to return, and more likely to have a great experience if they fell taken care of. ZERV ApS has a great product advisor on their websites for inspiration, and True Fit makes one of the best size guides for webshops I've seen 📐 📦 "When will my order get here?" Probably the single most asked question in e-commerce but there are many ways to "solve" this, proactivity being the keyword in whatever approach is taken. Whether it's consistently updating the customer by email or SMS (from company addresses and numbers, not just from the carrier), hosted tracking portals on the website, or internal automations that trigger emails if delays occur, handling this area well can turn a delayed parcel or delivery issue into a value-adding activity. 📈 Being able to contact a customer if there is a delivery delay BEFORE the customer knows is the best way of ensuring that the customer thinks of you as an ally in getting them their parcel, not as the reason for the delay ⭐ Safe to say our new team of e-commerce managers are ready to help out if need be 🫡 👇 Nadja Oelsner, Jolanta Mickevič, Sophie Moore, Gintare Narmontaite, Mirka Baloghová, Alla Juknevičiene, Arttu Saarela, Amelie Jonsson, and Johanna Lindgren

I think I don't favour contracts anymore. Since I started working at Channable, I enjoy the dynamic that comes along with having monthly subscriptions. Cancel anytime. No exceptions made. It creates a sense of urgency. Full transparency. Want to know our pricing? Check our website, without having to talk to anyone. After joining countless of sales calls, it's a breath of fresh air to see that customers rarely try to negotiate. Except for the one off that comes from a competitor. I wonder where they got that behaviour from? ;-) Looking back on working with longer contracts, to me it hides customer dissatisfaction and inactive users which increase the chance of churning. Now, we immediately hear or see it in our graphs. This forces us to be on top of our game, everyday. So in a way I realize that your business model can shape your culture. How cool is that?

🤯 A $160M brand In <4 years... This week we had the honor of joining a masterclass by Jorn from Henchman, part of LexisNexis on how they scaled to a $160M ( !!!! ) exit as an early stage B2B saas. ( Thanks Wintercircus Ghent for the amazing value 🎪❤️ ) What's so interesting to me, is that they do not dedicate their success to their tech, but mainly to their brand and positioning. ⬇️ Let me share their wisdom on how they did it ⬇️ 1. Create a consistent content strategy that provides value to your audience 2. Develop a unique brand voice and personality ( they asked themselves "What would Ryan Reynolds do?" 🤣 ) 3. Focus on strategic positioning to differentiate yourself 4. Don't be afraid to be unconventional 5. Leverage influencers, experts and partnerships in your industry 6. Experiment with different content formats and channels The key for Henchman was their authenticity and aligning their brand with their company's values and vision. It takes time to perfect, but a strong brand was their major advantage in a crowded market.
