Leuven-based cybersecurity firm Phished, under the leadership of Jo Vandebergh and Arnout Van de Meulebroucke, has successfully secured an investment of €7.5 million through a convertible bond from the investment fund Welvaartsfonds. This substantial financial boost will support the company's ambitious growth strategies over the next four years. Phished specializes in enhancing cyber awareness through innovative AI-driven simulations. These simulations are designed to train employees in recognizing and responding to phishing attacks, thereby improving overall cyber resilience in organizations. The company's mission is to fundamentally change employees' digital behavior to prevent cyber incidents. With the new funding, Phished plans to accelerate its international expansion and further its investments in cybersecurity research. The aim is to grow the company's Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) to €20 million by 2027. This will involve scaling up their sales and marketing efforts to reach more businesses globally, reinforcing their commitment to creating a safer digital environment for their clients.

Throughout the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2024, 60 Belgian citizens were invited to engage in dialogues concerning the future of #artificialintelligence in Europe. The objective was to collect a spectrum of viewpoints on the direction Europe should pursue in #AI development for the forthcoming years (2024-2029). Over three weekends, these citizens, along with local stakeholders and participation experts, delved into the complexities of AI: everyone contributed to crafting a report that echoes the diverse voices of the Belgian population. 🗣️📊 The result? A detailed report highlighting nine key messages that reflect the aspirations and concerns of citizens regarding AI in the EU. Here's a sneak peek at their priorities: 1️⃣ Ensuring AI enhances work without replacing humans. 2️⃣ Integrating AI education into learning systems for present and future generations. 3️⃣ Rethinking economic systems to prevent power concentration and foster European innovation. 4️⃣ Investing in AI research and innovation to retain talent and boost European competitiveness. 5️⃣ Addressing AI's environmental footprint and promoting sustainable practices. 6️⃣ Combating the threats posed by deepfakes and misinformation with urgent measures. 7️⃣ Strengthening the EU's global position in AI while safeguarding European values. 8️⃣ Advocating for global agreements on ethical AI standards. 9️⃣ Upholding the principles of 'human in the loop' and maintaining human control over AI development. ⚖ The recent adoption of the NIS 2 transposition law by the Belgian Federal Parliament marks a significant milestone in enhancing our national cybersecurity. The Council of the European Union has approved the Cyber ​​Resilience Act (CRA). The new law sets binding requirements for the cybersecurity of digital products sold in the EU, such as software and IoT devices so that consumers and businesses can safely use digital products, such as webcams and smart TVs that are part of the Internet of Things (IoT). The CYCLOPES workshop on "Enhancing Digital Forensics Investigations with OSINT and Cyber Intelligence" is taking place in Hasselt at the Provincial Administration Limburg, thanks to our colleagues from the Federal Judicial Police Limburg (Belgium). This workshop highlights the increasing importance of leveraging Open-Source Intelligence (#OSINT) and Cyber Intelligence to enhance the capabilities of Law Enforcement Agencies in combating #cybercrime.   Digital Forensics (DF) plays a crucial role in investigations by collecting, analysing, and preserving evidence from digital devices such as computers, smartphones, and Internet of Things #IoT devices. However, digital data's growing volume, variety, and complexity, compounded by encryption and jurisdictional issues, present significant challenges to LEAs. OSINT and Cyber Intelligence offer potential solutions by enabling LEAs to gather information from publicly available sources and monitor cyber threats across various platforms. These tools can enhance the traditional DF process by providing additional context and actionable intelligence. The CYCLOPES workshop focuses on addressing these challenges by: 1. Identifying current technologies that support DF, OSINT, and Cyber Intelligence efforts. 2. Sharing best practices among practitioners to improve collaboration and efficiency in investigations. 3. Highlighting areas for innovation and development where new tools or methodologies are needed to address emerging threats. 4. Exploring legislative and policy changes that may be required to facilitate the integration of these techniques in legal investigations. By promoting knowledge sharing and discussing technological advancements, the workshop aims to empower LEAs to better navigate the complexities of cybercrime investigations, ultimately leading to improved outcomes in prosecutions and protecting citizens. 𝐂𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲: 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐥𝐠𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐍𝐈𝐒 𝟐 𝐀𝐜𝐭 Today, the Belgian NIS 2 Act has been published in the Belgian Official Gazette with an entry into force on the 18th of October 2024. This act transposes the EU Directive 2022/2555 on measures for a high common level of cybersecurity (i.e., the NIS 2 Directive), and replaces the Belgian NIS 1 Act. It is of significant importance for employers to be aware that the NIS 2 Act has a much broader scope than its predecessor. For example, it expands the sectors covered by the act. In addition, it also imposes the obligation to implement certain minimum cybersecurity risk management measures. Members of the governing bodies in so-called ‘essential and important’ entities will be obligated to undergo cybersecurity training so that they may understand the measures they are adopting. Furthermore, the act requires the reporting of incidents to the competent national authority. In Belgium, this is the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium. Failure to comply may result in administrative fines of up to 10,000,000 EUR or 2% of the total annual worldwide revenue, whichever is higher. In addition, natural persons representing essential entities may be held liable for failure to comply.
