Hugely proud to have been admitted for publication in the digital edition of the Belgian Bank- en Financiewezen Digitaal / Revue Bancaire et Financière Numérique. The message of Philippe Gijsels and me is clear (and remains the same ... luckily): We are on the cusp of a different world, leaving behind 40 years of ever-declining interest rates and #inflation. Five defining waves will sweep through the global economy. The first is #climate transition, a recent trend. Then there is #multiglobalisation (see import tariffs EU which will make China look for in-betweens ... or start to produce more in #Europe) and an #innovation-driven #productivity boom, both of which are shifting trends. The last two waves, #ageing and #rising debt, are existing trends that will kick into overdrive in the coming decades. In terms of growth, the pros and cons largely cancel each other out, but when it comes to #inflation and nominal #interest rates, the balance tilts towards higher levels. We are entering a world of structurally higher inflation and interest rates. Thank you to Belgian Financial Forum for the publication.

In the framework of the Stargate project led by Brussels Airport Company (BAC), WaterstofNet in assignment of VIL, organizes a demo with a hydrogen-powered ‘ground support equipment’ (GSE) at Brussels-Zaventem Airport in May and June. The test is needed in order to gain more insights in the pros and cons onsite, which could enable the greening of the ground support- and handling equipment. The demo also means a first at BAC: the introduction of hydrogen at the airport through the use of a (mobile) hydrogen refuelling station (HRS).

The AI race is on, and Belgian financial institutions are embracing it with great enthusiasm! 📣 This was highlighted in key financial media in Belgium through a series of exclusive interviews we organised with spokespersons from FinTech Belgium and Sailpeak. The first Belgian AI Barometer, presented by FinTech Belgium and Sailpeak, illuminates the transformative impact of AI within our financial institutions. ➡️Key findings reveal: 🔹AI is not just a future imperative but a present reality, with dedicated AI teams and strategic investments already in place. 🔹84% of institutions use predictive AI for customer segmentation, risk modeling, and fraud detection. 🔹Generative AI is gaining traction, with 37% of financial institutions already using it and 79% testing pilot projects. However, with the upcoming EU AI Act introducing significant legislation to manage AI integration within the banking and insurance sectors, the journey is not without challenges.
