👏 It was pretty fun to mark the 35th anniversary of our very first Strategic Coach workshop last week. We started back then with only 6 people in the first workshop group. Nowadays, we host groups of 30-60 entrepreneurs in multiple locations around the globe, sometimes with 7 workshops in one day! Personal transformation.  Can our past lead us to our future? 💫 3 Saturdays ago, I started the next phase of my education as a coach.  A 5-month journey towards my advanced certification as a Transformational Life Coach. During our first workshop, we had to envision the kind of coach we aspire to be.  The version of ourselves that we can be proud of. We were tasked to self-reflect on ‘𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩?’ It was a familiar reflective question. Yet, this time it felt different. As I reflected on it, I had a clear image of my future self.  A coach who is confident, passionate and authentic. I also saw part of me who felt ‘I could / should have done better’ after each session.  The voice that never seemed satisfied with the progress I made. How do I become confident with a sense of ‘not good enough’? And who sets this expectation of ‘good enough’? Coaching is client-focused.  As a coach, I am a thinking partner who helps clients find their answers. This means the success of a session is measured by the client’s expectations. When a client is pleased with the session outcome, it is all that matters. It made me realize my expectations were not part of the success equation.  On the contrary, those self-expectations became a weight on my shoulders. To grow into who I want to be, I must let go of the self-judging part of me.  In the same way, we give up our favourite T-shirts when they no longer fit. Only then, will I become the coach I aspire to be. ===== Let go when what was great, no longer serves our future. Each session has one main topic and what we call "Issue Processing" the possibility for each member to bring a burning issue or question and get the outside view from other HRD's. Great session yesterday at Scaleup Vlaanderen with Jürgen Heyman (ICF certified PCC) on transitioning from founder/leadership-led sales to a structured GTM approach Something on which it can still be so hard to find proper guidance, and which guys like Stephane and I have been narrowing in on for years now ➡️ 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 What makes this phase so damn treacherous is that it often comes with "crossing the chasm" You're not just transforming your Revenue Architecture, you're also trying to persuade a dramatically different set of prospects. Early & late majority B2B SaaS buyers have dramatically different requirements than innovators and early adopters 🤓 Get ready for a sharp increase in required standards for your product, testimonials, reviews, certifications, ... These buyers, more so than others, want to mitigate RISK ❌ And they will buy based on ROI, as well as HOW MANY OF THEIR PEERS already use your product. Most companies fail this phase because they're not able to adapt to these two - mind-bendingly difficult - realities at the same time. Some keys to outperform the trend: 👉🏻 Invest in quality collateral that addresses your more demanding new audiences' needs. Your sales hires will not be able to wing it like founders can. 👉🏻 Design a good sales process. Own the sales cycle; do not let it own you. 👉🏻 Stakeholder mapping: who is your buying committee, how do their problems relate to each other? 👉🏻 Sales coaching & KPI tracking: don't assume sales will manage themselves. If you're selling enterprise deals, it might take months before your reps close deals. Figure out how to review their performance in the intermediate. What else should I add?
