𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱:2022 as a spin-off from the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials at the University of Groningen. Bioprex's coating, using quaternary ammonium compounds, kills bacteria before they can adhere to surfaces, addressing a major healthcare issue. With over 4 million annual infections in Europe, this technology could greatly reduce infection rates and healthcare costs, especially as antibiotic resistance rises. Bioprex is now focusing on preclinical evaluations, starting with orthopedic implants like pins and screws, and plans to expand to catheters and other devices. Biotech startup AmphiStar, a leader in sustainable surfactant products, has recently been awarded a €2 million non-dilutive grant from SPRIN-D (Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation). This brings the total funding secured by the Belgian innovator to €10 million this year. On 13 May, we took the Antwerp Declaration one step further to discuss the role of biotechnology in boosting Europe’s industrial strategy.    After the incredible support gathered for the Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal with over 1,100 signatories, Cefic and supporters of the Antwerp Declaration are hosting Antwerp Dialogues. These dialogues bring together different perspectives around one key interest, to collectively foster a deeper understanding of the issue and offer the new policy leaders' recommendations to help shape future policies.      In collaboration with partners like the EFPIA - European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations, EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries, and CropLife Europe, our recent dialogue zoomed in on the pivotal role of #biotechnology in Europe's industrial strategy. Pure Ac-225 is obtained only through Ra-225 decay. All processes in which neutrons are involved will, in smaller or larger quantities, transmute some of the Ra-226 into Ra-227 and thus form long-lived Ac-227. This is the case for both the 226Ra(g,n)225Ra and 226Ra(p,2n)225Ac reactions, not for the Th-229 decay and the "second chance" spallation Ac-225, both based on Ra-225 decay. Because the latter production routes are not really scalable (too little Th-229 available in the world to go much above 50 Ci/y of Ac-225 and economically unviable for spallation), how can we get our pure Ac-225 in sufficient quantities ? Fortunately, the (g,n) route produces large quantities of Ra-225, which only decays slowly (15d half-life). When the first Ac-Ra separation is performed after irradiation of the target, the first extracted actinium fraction is discarded as it contains Ac-227. The Ra fraction obtained is a mixture of Ra-225 and Ra-226, which can be used as a generator from which pure Ac-225 can be milked for several weeks just like from a Th-229 based production...

This extension round was led by new investor Thuja Capital, and as part of the financing, Evan Castiglia, Partner at Thuja Capital, will join the Board of Directors. Thuja joins the existing investors Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund (BIVF), Kurma Partners, HTGF | High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), coparion, IdInvest/Eurazeo, Creathor Ventures and the Max Planck Society (MPG). Tacalyx is a pioneer in the development of novel antibody-based therapeutics targeting TACAs, glycan structures that are often found on cancer cells but are absent from differentiated tissues under normal physiologic conditions. Thus, anti-TACA antibodies allow for specific targeting of cancer cells and can be further developed into various treatment modalities, including antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) or T cell engagers (TCEs). With its unique expertise in glycan biology and manipulation, Tacalyx has established a pipeline of several first-in-class assets targeting different TACAs across multiple solid tumor indications. With the additional funds, Tacalyx will develop two of its novel antibodies into late preclinical stage as well as advance several earlier stage programs.
