From capturing rising carbon dioxide levels to record-breaking heat, climate satellites have been a game-changer in proving that climate change is a #ClimateCrisis. "We've had a series of radar altimetry satellites circling around our Earth in constant operation since 1992 that have allowed us to see the undeniable: oceans are in constant rise," said Cedric David, a scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California. A new report from World Meteorological Organization with UNEP and others points out the potential for low-cost sensor systems to assess levels of air pollution, identify sources and support air quality improvement strategies. Low-cost sensors can support effective decision-making to manage air quality impacts, particularly in areas lacking more traditional monitors. #ELHEAS is pleased to read this report from the World Meteorological Organization and UN Environment Programme, which encourages the initiative of low-cost sensors for combating #airpollution and promoting #health. For low and middle-income countries that cannot yet afford reference sensors, choosing low-cost sensors proves to be an essential tool for monitoring air quality and filling the gap in air quality data in these regions. These sensors are a key solution to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 13 and 15 by 2030. Because air is our most shared common good, ELHEAS currently has 6 active sensors on the ground in the city of Douala, Cameroon, to monitor air quality and produce a monthly report on the average particulate matter and observed peaks. #AirQuality #SDG13 #SDG15 #UNDP #ELHEAS #Douala #Cameroon #WHO
