Which early stage are you in… The #amounts #raised per #startup in Belgium can vary considerably depending on the #sector, the #maturity of the company (seed, series A, B, etc.), and the #size of the target market. However, to give a general overview: 1. #Seed phase : - Average amount raised: Between €100,000 and €1 million. - Characteristics: Startups at this stage are often in the #product #development #phase or in the early stages of commercialization. Funds are generally raised from #business #angels, #seed #funds or via #crowdfunding platforms. 2. #Series #A : - Average amount raised: Between €1 million and €5 million. - Characteristics: Startups generally have a product on the market and are looking to #accelerate their #growth. #Fundraising comes from #venture #capitalists (VCs) and #institutional #funds. 3. #Series #B and beyond : - Average amount raised: Between €5 million and €20 million, or even more for fast-growing startups. - Characteristics: At this stage, startups are expanding rapidly, often internationally. Investors include #larger #venture #capital #funds, as well as #private and #institutional #investors. Factors influencing amounts raised - #Sector: Startups in the #biotech and #fintech sectors tend to raise higher amounts, due to greater capital requirements for #development and #regulation. - #Market maturity: Startups addressing international or niche markets with high added value often raise more. - Quality of #team and project: A strong team with a clear #vision and a #proven product with a solid & complementary #team can attract greater investment. According to recent data (2022-2023), total fundraising in Belgium has continued to grow, sometimes reaching record levels in certain sectors such as #biotech and #tech in general. In 2021, for example, Belgian startups raised almost €1.4 billion in total, with a trend towards more mega-raises (over €10 million). In short, although the amounts vary widely, Belgian startups have access to a solid funding ecosystem, with fundraisings ranging from a few hundred thousand euros to several tens of millions of euros, depending on their stage of development and sector. Deloitte surveyed 388 CEOs and founders across 5 geographies, including #Switzerland, to find out the challenges, the ambitions, and the key focus areas driving the tech #ecosystem. Switzerland stands out with nearly 70% of scale-ups confirming that they have an #exitplan. Finally, the new BankWijzer-results have been published 💪 Every two years FairFin and Financité make a comprehensive analysis of the policies of the largest banks in Belgium as well as some of the smaller banks that are taking the lead on sustainability, based on the methodology of Fair Finance International & Profundo. For the last couple of months I have been diving into the investment policies of several banks, to analyse how they include sustainability into their investment policies. We did this for several themes ranging from human and labour rights, to climate and biodiversity. 💡 Some insights from BankWijzer on sustainability in banking in Belgium: Overall most banks are (slightly) improving, but the gap between large and small banks persists. Structural change requires changes made by major institutions. Newcomer Crelan's poor score raises concerns, despite their limited presence in case studies. A stronger focus on sustainable investments is crucial to prevent harmful practices. Belfius has seen a decline in its score, particularly in biodiversity. As a state-owned bank, there's a unique opportunity to drive positive change. Gender equality remains a challenge across all banks, highlighting a significant gap in policies addressing gender discrimination and related issues. Only Triodos and Vdk bank have explicit policies in place to exclude companies involved in settlements or occupied territories, emphasising the need for broader industry action.
