ZEV-UP Project
Transportation Programs
Frugal zero-emission vehicles concepts for the urban passenger challenge
About us
The ZEV-UP project will propose a zero-emission, user-centric battery electric vehicle for both passengers and goods. The ZEV-UP frugal vehicle concept will be a modular, multi-purpose electric vehicle with a swappable battery to reduce costs and improve energy efficiency. The concept focuses on sustainability, smooth charging and driving experience, and lower operational and maintenance cost. Real-world trials in Budapest and Istanbul will be conducted to ensure user acceptance and assess the vehicle's design and technological innovations. ZEV-UP started in January 2024 and will run until June 2027. The consortium consists of 17 partners.

ZEV-UP is proud to have contributed to the 2ZeroPartnership KPI assessment, carried out by LeMesurier Project 🍃 🚗 💡 LeMesurier is a support action for 2Zero, developing a comprehensive framework to monitor and measure the effectiveness of the Partnership's mission to advance sustainable road transport research and innovation. It considers 21 Key Performance Indicators for 2Zero, and our assessment has shown that ZEV-UP will contribute to 11 of them (4 fully and 7 partially). The four KPIs that ZEV-UP will make the most tangible contribution to are: 🟢 Zero tailpipe business models 🟢 Demonstration of technologies, components, systems and their integration in vehicles enabling affordability, high efficiency and fast charging capability 🟢 Optimal balance between battery size, user needs and recharging infrastructure capabilities identified from EU funded projects 🟢 Reduction of time and effort needed for the development of zero tailpipe emission solutions. Our contribution to this comprehensive KPI questionnaire also helps frame the upcoming evaluation process in ZEV-UP, helping us better evaluate our impact. We will also follow assessment recommendations from LeMesurier which will be produced towards the end of 2025. 🌐 Learn more about the LeMesurier Project: https://lnkd.in/eNH8hdGS #2ZeroKPIs #LeMesurier #SustainableTransport CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency ERTICO - ITS Europe

🔍 Exploring the Market Dynamics for the ZEV-UP Frugal Vehicles How can frugal #Battery #ElectricVehicles (BEVs) meet the diverse needs of both established and emerging economies? ZEV-UP has been looking into market dynamics and operational environments to ensure our vehicle designs are not only innovative but also economically viable. 🔑 Some key findings: - In Pakistan and South Africa, weak energy grids and high infrastructure costs challenge EV adoption, with affordability remaining critical for frugal BEVs. - Charging infrastructure plays a pivotal role. ZEV-UP developed an innovative Charging Infrastructure Index to evaluate and optimise charging networks based on user needs, with applications like in the city of Thessaloniki leading the way. - Mini frugal BEVs offer versatility for urban users, while fleet operators benefit from reduced operational costs, though risk remains a consideration. Insights from this analysis will directly inform the design of ZEV-UP vehicles, aligning them with market needs and fostering their adoption. Stay tuned for the release of Deliverable 1.2 and upcoming scientific papers on this innovative research! 👉 Read more on our website: https://lnkd.in/e-gTSp3Q Rhoé ICOOR Ford Otosan Lahore University of Management Sciences Centre for Transport Studies
