There's no better way to wrap up the year! 😊 Today, we had the pleasure of meeting with the Director-General of DG Energy, Ditte Juul Jørgensen, to exchange ideas on how to successfully advance energy efficiency during this Commission’s mandate. We highlighted how energy efficiency enhances competitiveness and supports the objectives of the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal, the urgency of implementing the Energy Efficiency Directive, and the benefits of providing energy efficiency businesses and stakeholders with a stable regulatory framework beyond 2030, including with an EU 2040 energy efficiency objective. Now time for a relaxing break, so we can return fully energised for a busy 2025! 💪 Patrick ten Brink Giulia Zilla Arianna Vitali Roscini Jan te Bos Chiara Martinelli

We were delighted to welcome MEP Niels Fuglsang at our General Assembly yesterday! As the new Commission begins its mandate, we had an insightful exchange on how to strengthen the role of energy efficiency in the EU agenda. Together, we explored ways to ensure that the many benefits of energy savings - from increased competitiveness to lower energy bills for citizens – can be delivered to advance the priorities of the new EU institutions. The next five years hold significant potential for energy efficiency, and we at the Coalition are fully committed to making this happen!

📢 Energy efficiency facilitates and lowers the costs of electrification! It is broadly accepted that electrification increases energy efficiency. But, as the EU is moving towards greater electrification, it is important not to overlook how energy efficiency can support a more affordable and manageable electrification process, while also boosting the competitiveness of EU businesses. 💪 In our new paper, we argue that energy efficiency and flexibility: ✅ Facilitate the electrification and decarbonisation of the EU energy system by mitigating overall demand, including at peak times. ✅ Curb the costs of electrifying the EU energy system, ensuring that the newly installed energy infrastructure is not unnecessarily oversized. ✅ Keep electricity prices in check and reduce energy bills for private households, simultaneously supporting European industry’s competitiveness while also protecting vulnerable consumers. 🤝 Energy efficiency and electrification work hand in hand to ensure a renewables-based, affordable, secure and competitive energy system. As the new Commission starts its work, let's ensure the Electrification Action Plan taps into this potential! 👉 Read our full paper here: https://lnkd.in/e8BbpvvC

🤝 Yesterday, we provided our feedback to the Commission consultation on the fitness check for the EU energy security architecture. 📢 We argue that, beyond preparedness for supply disruptions, risk avoidance or diversification of supply, any energy security framework must also strongly focus on the reduction of EU energy demand. Demand-side solutions: ✅ Enable a more flexible, efficient and agile energy system that is more resilient to external shocks; ✅ Reduce the imports of critical raw materials and technologies required to achieve the EU decarbonisation goals; ✅ Better protect citizens and businesses from volatile energy prices. 💪 This is why we call for any revision of the EU energy security framework to align with the EU’s long-term climate goals and the Fit for 55 package objectives! 👉 Read the full feedback: https://lnkd.in/ePma6auR APPLiA | Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe | Climate Alliance | PU Europe | EVVE European Association for the Consumption-based Billing of Energy Costs | European Alliance to Save Energy (EU-ASE) | Efficient Buildings Europe | Eurima (European Insulation Manufacturers Association) | REScoop.eu | E3G | European Environmental Bureau | Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP)

📢 In a new Euractiv article, we argue that the European Commission should not only focus on the effective implementation of the agreed EU energy efficiency framework for 2030, but also look ahead! Whether they concern competitiveness, electrification or affordability, the upcoming Commission's policy initiatives can accelerate the deployment of demand-side solutions. 🤝 This will benefit not only citizens and businesses, but the EU energy system as a whole! 📑Today, the International Energy Agency (IEA) published its 2024 report on the evolution of energy efficiency, providing an overview of global progress and challenges. 📉 The report finds that, in 2024, global primary energy intensity improved by only 1%. This is about the same rate as in 2023, and more importantly, is far from the rate needed to achieve the goal to double energy efficiency improvements by 2030 adopted during COP28, which requires countries to improve energy intensity by 4% annually. 🙌 On a more positive note, the report also finds that the countries making up over 70% of the global energy demand are implementing new or updated energy efficiency policies in 2024, which should lead to faster improvement rates in the coming years. In parallel with this report, the IEA has also published a new Energy Efficiency Progress Tracker👉https://lnkd.in/ecgMnHB5 Read the full report here👉https://lnkd.in/eCmHz7j6

📢 We're delighted to announce that the Coalition for Energy Savings is taking part in the #BringHeatHome Campaign launched today! Leading Members of the European Parliament, including Thomas Pellerin-Carlin, Sigrid Friis, Martin Hojsik, Niels Fuglsang and Benedetta Scuderi have joined the common call to action: the EU needs to decarbonise and lower heating & cooling demands now! 🤝 Together with our partners Euroheat & Power, the European Heat Pump Association, Efficient Buildings Europe, Energy Cities and the Cool Heating Coalition, we have a clear, unambiguous message: a safe and comfortable home starts with clean and efficient heating and cooling. The same goes for a secure, competitive and sustainable Europe! Our Secretary General, Arianna Vitali Roscini, emphasises that “making our homes more energy efficient and decarbonised is crucial to ensuring that the energy transition benefits EU citizens. Our joint campaign comes at a crucial moment, when legislation resulting from the European Green Deal must urgently be implemented and new initiatives to help Europeans reduce their energy bills must be devised. We are united in delivering a simple message: addressing heating and cooling is essential to achieve the EU’s climate and energy goals by putting citizens at the centre.” Time to Bring Heat Home! 💻 For more information on the campaign visit its website 👉 https://bringheathome.eu/ 📜Read the call to action 👉 https://bit.ly/3UzzbEP 🆕 Press release 👉 https://bit.ly/4fgtHqZ

During his confirmation hearing yesterday, Commissioner-Designate for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen casted doubt on the necessity to set an EU energy efficiency target for 2040. 👉 In a moment when energy security, high energy prices and energy independence are at the core of policy discussions, energy efficiency can deliver on the four principles that Dan Jørgensen laid down for his mandate: ✅ Structural changes: Energy efficiency provides long-lasting reduction of energy demand, enabling the transformation and decarbonisation of the EU energy system ✅ Tangible results: Energy efficiency delivers multiple benefits for the EU society, from cost reduction to increased competitiveness while lowering greenhouse gas emissions. ✅ Putting people first: Energy efficiency reduces energy bills for citizens and grants them more flexibility and power over their own consumption. ✅ Being inclusive: Energy efficiency is key to alleviating energy poverty and supporting vulnerable consumers by protecting them from volatile energy prices. 🤝 We will reach out to the Commissioner-Designate to share our views on why a 2040 EU energy efficiency target is a crucial aspect of the policy architecture for the next decade. The EU still needs #energyefficiencyfirst! 💪
