  • We recently read Donald H Taylor and Egle Vinauskaite report on the current state of AI in L&D. Their research questionaire aimed to highlight where we are now - not provide a final answer. We'd contributed to the original questionaire so were keen to see the results. We asked AI to collaborate with us on this summary and recommend diving into the full report. ⚔️ Most L&D teams still use AI for relatively simple tasks like content generation. It might be more efficient in the short term but only if what's generated is also effective. 🖼️ The 'Immaturity Model' challenges the traditional view of AI maturity as a linear progression. It highlights distinct clusters of AI usage: internal efficiency, point solutions (specialised offerings), and business integration. 🥇 Generative AI in some cases is going beyond content creation to support brainstorming, adaptive learning, and personalized user experiences. 🎤 Case studies highlight more sophisticated use of AI such as AI-powered skills taxonomies, dynamic role creation, and scalable coaching simulations. 🧫 Cultural and structural readiness is more important than the technology. The report highlights the importance of leadership buy-in, cross-functional collaboration, and a culture that supports innovation. Trust in AI remains low, The call to action from the report is for L&D to think with a business mindset and move away from 'content' because it's rapidly going to lose it's value - as will L&D if AI isn't being used strategically. Simply accept or reject the suggestions.  📣 You can even change the tone of voice with a range of options from 'academic' to 'poetic'.Enhanced edit features!  💬 Add a quote block - relevant quotes that encapsulate an idea influence people to take action  🖊️ Add highlights - we restricted the colours to reduce decision paralysis  🌈 New font colours - colour adds context and improves memory - we selected only colours with strong contrast. Nobody ever needed a yellow flipchart pen!    💪 Type a '/' and start typing to add new elements to your page (works like Notion and great for power users)  ➕ You can still use the + button if that's your preference  💱 Easily undo changes with Ctl Z Check it out.

    Humans and AI , sometimes they do better alone. Researchers from MIT published earlier this week research on when human-AI combinations are effective and when they are not. The researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 370 results on AI and human combinations in a variety of tasks from 106 different experiments published. Key findings: 1. Surprisingly the researchers did not find significant “human-AI synergy,” which means that the average human-AI systems performed worse than the best of humans alone or AI alone on the performance metrics studied. 2. Human-AI teams showed most potential working in combination to perform creative tasks. Task such as summarizing social media posts, answering questions in a chat, or generating new content and imagery, these collaborations were often better than the best of humans or AI working independently 3. AI alone was more effective than human-AI teams for decision-making tasks like classifying deep fakes, forecasting demand, and diagnosing medical cases. Human-AI teams often underperformed against AI alone on those tasks. According to the researchers organizations may be overestimating the effectiveness of their current systems. The MIT team emphasized the importance of assessing whether humans and AI are truly outperforming either humans or AI working independently. Obviously a snapshot in time and likely next versions of AI will get smarter and better in human collaboration but the research makes a clear case for a more nuanced view on effective human-AI collaboration.
